One week out and I have a question about pain

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody!

So I'm officially sleeved, and I could not be happier!! I'm able to get all my liquids in and I just advanced from Clear Liquids to Protein Shakes and soup! My one issue is that when I'm drinking I get some tightness in my sternum area, its not my throat and its not my stomach. It's not unbearable and it usually passes pretty quickly but its a painful tightness. I'm just worried because I don't want it to be painful everytime I eat forever! Advice or input would be great. Thanks!

I think you are swollen and what you are feeling are the liquids inside your sleeve. Most of your stomach is now behind your sternum and so that is where you will feel restriction. Maybe take smaller sips and space them apart a little longer. I had the same feeling with cold drinks because they would cause my stomach to spasm and feel tight.

Yes for the first few weeks you have to do the sips and do it often! It will get better around your 5th or 6th week! Everyday gets better!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Are you on a PPI?

Wise advise from Foxbins and Hopeandfaith -- the only other thing I would add is if you had a hiatal hernia repair, that might feel tight in the same area and will get better with time. I didn't drink cold Water for at least 2 months. Now I can get enough of cold, cold water :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
