Not losing weight!!!! Give me a break!!! OMG

Recommended Posts

Hello again:

I am back with the same complain just a couple months different, I got my gastric sleeve plication on August 9, 2010 and lost approximately 50lbs, in the first few month, the scales have not move since September . I have brought a treadmill, an eplicite machine, I exercise, eat small meals 6 times a day and drink all my Water and still no weight lose, yes I have lost inches, have gone from a size 28 to a size 20 but no weight lost, I need to see the numbers move....I was told that I would lose 10lbs a month just weight watching what I ate, I eat half of what I eat before and still no weight lose. It is very, very upsetting to spend all this money and not get the result that this tool is suppose to do....Yes I get I am not gaining any weight but come on there has to be some number lost to continue, it is now hard to explain to people and co workers that I exactly had surgery and tell them the positive of spending the 6200.00 (us funds) for what!!!

Please some one help me, explain to me what is up other then monitor my food intake, do that with Live strong, never eat more then I am suppose to, exercise, drink your Water, doing that and still not even close to moving the scale.....

I am beyond frustrated, HELP!!!

DR. Rod what now!!!!

What does your intake look like? I mean like breakdown of Protein, fat, carbs, calories? ? ?

Also, have you been tested for any metabolic conditions i.e. thyroid, insulin resistance, PCOS? ? ?

If you have not, I recommend it. If you have, and it was pre-op, then you might need to have your levels rechecked.

How much weight do you have until goal? How is your Vitamin intake?

The whole "losing weight" by watching what we eat doesn't always work out as magically as they explain it. I still have to monitor my intake even in maintenance, or I will see a true gain.

You might have to tweak your intake numbers, and figure out what works for your body. what worked for you the first month? Did you do low carb the first month, and then progressed with more carbs, just smaller portions? Your body might be sensitive to carbs, and if you're taking in more carbs than Protein, your body will burn the carbs first instead of the fat stores.

Thank you for your advise, it is funny but I just went to the doctors for full blood work, will be getting the results on Friday....I want to lose to be at least 178lbs, so I need to lose at least 100 pounds, it seems so far off, I take a multi Vitamin with out iron...

I eat carbs, mostly whole wheat bread, smart Pasta, with olive oil, no heavy sauces, baked chicken, lots of veggies, mostly a greek diet....

Thank again for your response , it does give me food for thought.

Cheers Kathy

I would be frustrated too... I leave for MX in a couple of weeks so I'm not a pro at this but here is what I know from my research.

1- Muscle weighs more than fat, so if you have started working out and you're loosing inches not weight you're still doing great (it's not all about the scale)

2- Make sure you're burning more calories than you are taking in.

3-Try to think back to when you stopped loosing weight.... is there something you added back into your diet around that time? If so try cutting it back out.

4- Absolutely check your lab work to see if there is an issue.

Hope this helps, you are in my thoughts and prayers!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
