I've spent most of my life heavy at 13 I was over 300 lbs, the lightest I've been was 245 lbs at the age of 16 years old... at my heaviest I was around 575 lbs... I tried to have a gastric bypass in 2003 but the company I worked for got bought out, my insurance changed and the new insurance wouldn't approve the surgery after going through all the pre surgery tests. I have lost and gained over and over again including 115 lbs in 2007 only to gain it back plus some.

I moved back to my childhood home in 2009 and had one mission, get healthy, I also started my mission to get sleeved or bypassed. I was all set up to get a bypass in October 2009 but then was told I couldn't have the surgery because at 496 lbs I was too big. The CAT scan machines at 2 of the local hospitals only went up to 400 lbs and they couldn't risk operating on me. The third hospital in the area went up to 500 lbs but would accept my insurance.

I pressed on and found a hospital 1 hour and 15 minutes away, and after 3 appeals with my insurance company I got approved two days after I started a new job March 2010. The company I work for has a strict 90 day no absence policy so I setup my Surgery for July 12th... That day I was sleeved and was fortunate not to have much pain and just a little discomfort.

I lost 100 lbs quickly but then slipped back into some old carb habits, this week I recognized that I was eating slider foods and recommitted myself to working my sleeve, over the past seven weeks I actually gained 2 lbs but I think I've lost that and then some this week. Remember what I forgot Protein and Water are so important and if you're eating your Protein properly you won't really have room for junk.

Fantastic job not just losing so much weight, but sticking to your plan to get the surgical support you needed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
