Hair extensions?

I am wanting a new look. My hair grows slow and I am wondering if extensions would work? I am 5 months post op and my hair is falling out, but not noticable. I want the extensions to get a new sexy length, not because of thinning. Has anyone else tried it? Also what type do you think would work best? I don't want to do anything to damage my hair. My husband wants me to cut my hair, but he's gone for 3wks right now. I think it would be fun to surprise him with a new look when he gets home, and show him that I can rock long hair! Any thoughts or suggestions?

I don't know, but if you are still losing any hair at all, I would think twice about extensions just yet. You don't want some hair to fall out and lose some of those expensive extensions right along with it. ohmy.gif

Ditto, plus they are gonna pull on your hair with their weight. Also, it really doesn't look that great in real life, unless you are committed to styling them daily - the bonds tend to show.

You should get some. I LOVE my hair extensions...I have the clip ons and they are great!!!! I colored my hair black, so they were easy to match up. Real remy hair, and it was a 10 pc. I'm actually wearing them in my profile pic. They are super fun!!

Please excuse my frankness, but I to look at your profile pic to see exactly who I am offering advice to. I, being African American, am no stranger to extensions. Extensions, depending on the install method, can actually protect your hair. There are many reasonable ways to test them out before spending big bucks. I recommend, like Sleeve, to go with clips. I wear clips on days I just want to add some length or don't have time (or money) to get a traditional install.

You can also have your extensions sew-in, making sure NOT to go to a tight braider, fused in (also known as fusion [hot or cold], there is also a new no glue, no braids method which I am considering (but the cost is slightly higher) for an install that I want to last about 9 months.

Hopes this helps.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I think clip ins will be the way to go. While doing some research I found something called my easy extensions. Looks easy, but I hate to buy stuff online without being able to actually see it first, even though I could return them. It still can be a hassle. I will think about it & keep looking around. Thanks again!

Hello Meriteri, I have a friend who had the same issue with her hair thinning and she gets the beaded extensions. It's a bit pricey but what the stylist does is he/she takes individual strands of human hair (of your choice) takes a tiny bead (that matches the color of your hair) and uses a small tool and crimps it onto the root of your hair to make it fuller. It looks great and you can wash it, blow dry and treat it like your natural hair.

@Meriteri, also, there is absolutely no damage done to your natural hair, when you get it tightened the stylist breaks the old bead and reuses the old strands and uses a new bead.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
