Approved today! Now I am scared!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Sheila....

My BMI is 37....I have only told my oldest daughter and my significant other about my surgery. I just didn't feel the need to share this with people who would more than likely judge or say negative things.

My surgery is this Friday, and I am scared! This forum has been so helpful, especially this last week before my surgery date!

You'll do great! You know in your heart what is right for YOU!!

Hi there

Wishing you all the best for thr surgery and keep us posted on your progress.

Take care.

Hi Sheila, I know how you feel. I've also been approved for surgery and I am also scared. My family and friends don't think I need to have it. But as an RN I know the health problems that can occur as I get older. I keep also asking myself if I really want to take the risk with surgery.

Hi there, After many months of doctor's appts, nut appts, etc. I am now finally approved to have my VSG. I have been calling my insurance company 3 times a day for a week to find out if I was approved. My surgery date is March 28th at 8am. That is a whole 5 weeks away and how am I going to sleep knowing I am going to have major surgery and is it really needed. Everyone says, Sheila you are not big enough to have surgery. But my BMI is 40 and how big do I need to be to have it done? I am so scared but also excited. I read this forum daily and everyone is such an inspiration. I need some support from all of you that I am doing the correct thing. Thanks so much for listening. Sheila

hey sheila.. i'm an ob/gyn and when i tell my friends and family i want to have bariatric surgery most people say the same thing "you're not big enough" "just eat right and exercise". regarding the tubal at the same time of surgery, it is possible but you may end up with more incisions since the sleeve ports are in the upper abdomen. i went to the surgeon and my bmi is 40. i have bc/bs and with my insurance i have to lose 10% of my body weight. now i'm afraid that i won't qualify since my bmi will no longer be 40. i have 3 more pounds to lose. has anyone have experience with this? i have no medical problems (and i want to keep it that way).

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
