Anybody late teens, early 20s had the VSG?

Recommended Posts

Got mine at 25. 3 months later, hit my lowest weight in a decade; now I'm at my lowest weight since I was a tween. Why wait if you've got the financial means or insurance approval now? All you get from being fat for another couple of years is atherosclerosis and degenerative arthritis that much sooner than if you were at a normal weight. And like MRSKoubik said earlier, the psychosocial benefits are amazing! Only downside - everything I try on these days seem to fit, so "browsing" always turns into buying!

hearing your story makes me even more excited to get mine started :) And i don't really have the financial means, that's why it's so important to do it now. My insurance company is doing a pilot program and they're only paying for the surgery for 100 ppl. im frantically trying to be in one of those spots. so far so good. and about everything that you try on fitting, if that's the worst that can happen, I am totally ok :) hahaha :)

DO IT. I am 25 I haven't been this size, since I was 20. If you want this, don't let it go until it's done. I had mine on 12/8/10 and I haven't looked back since I have lost 89 pounds since then. My starting weight was 410, so I still have a while to go but I am loving life, and will love it even more to come.

I'm 18 years old, and i'm in the process of getting ready to get my sleeve. My only worry is that since i'm so young, should I wait a few years, or go ahead and get it done? Basically my whole family is obese and I don't see anything changing anytime soon for me unless I get this surgery. Any experiences and opinions would be greatly appreciated :)

I'm going through the same thing. I was going to get the LAP-BAND surgery but after reading the horror stories and learning the VSG could be done laproascopically. (sp.) i've decided to go through with VSG (and it's 100% covered by ahcccs!) I really applaud you on moving forward with your decision as I hope to do soon. maybe we could keep in touch? let a sista know. lol

I am in my late 20s and I wish I would have done it sooner! I struggled with so many insecurities throughout the prime years of my life and I literally cried yesterday because I was so grateful to have been able to get the surgery. It hasn't always been easy (I am about 6 weeks out, so the not fun part!) but it is amazing what the surgery has done for me and I can only imagine a year from now how I will be feeling.

DEFINITELY DO IT!!!! I remind myself every time I have a stall of weightloss that no matter how long it takes me, it is still much faster than I could ever lose on my own, and in addition, it is not nearly as stressful/depressing. In fact, it is positive, rather than negative (think a diet without constantly feeling deprived) and I couldn't be happier :)

Good luck to you!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
