I am seriously considering the gastric sleeve procedure. Does anyone here regret having the surgery? Why? Thank you

Just in the beginning for the first 3 months I had buyers remorse really badly. . . but that was because they take your stomach away and overnight you are expected to completely change your lifestyle. . . how you eat, drink, exercise, etc. . . overnight. . .the re-learning phase is crazy as all get out, but now at 13 months out, I'm very glad I got it done. . . no regrets now at all. . .

The only thing I wish I had done differently was get my thyroid tested before I did the surgery. I think you really have to capitalize on those 1st few months and I probably would have lost a little faster had I been on synthroid like I am now. I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism when my US doc did my labs at about 5 months out.

I complain alot about being a slow looser..... its all just a bunch of whining on my part.... I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I have never ever done a better thing for myself

Thank you to all who have answered my post, and to all that will, keep them coming. So far not one person has said that they wouldn't do it again. I really think that based on what I am hearing that it is a good idea for me to do this. Thank you sooooo much

No 'buyers remorse' - not for one second!! It's the best decision I've ever made for myself. I never had any problems, surgery was easy (get a heating pad), recovery was easy and if you treat this surgery as a 'diet' until you get to goal, losing the weight is not difficult. Afterwards, we can live our life as 'normal' people and stop all the yo yo dieting. It is wonderful; it takes some getting use to, not feeling guilty when we take a bite of something decadent, like pumpkin bread, but a few bites and you're satisfied. Life is different and wonderful. Cravings for me at least, are gone as is real hunger. I can guarantee you, you will not go back to the doctor and want your stomach back!! ;)

No regrets other than not being able to pig out at Thanksgiving and Christmas. But that also means no January Resolutions to lose weight (which always seemed to translate into gain more weight).

I really believe this surgery saved my life. I was on my way to a lifestyle of unhealthy eating, poor labs, diabetes and heart disease. My lab numbers are incredible now ... I feel great ...

My husband has loved me at any size, but now I find that I'm getting my exercise running away because he can't keep his hands off of me ... or involved in extra curricular activities. B)

Do you research. Talk to a surgeon (or two) ... Come join us on the Loser's Bench!

Not a single regret or tear. I was never nervous before surgery and normally I would be having dry heaves and throwing up (I have a very nervous tummy) but I walked into the hospital so sure and postitive. I am just over 60 days out and down 44 lbs since surgery. I may reach goal in less then 6 months total. I could have never done this without surgery. Go for it....you will not regret it.

Rollercoaster you really need to make sure you are ready for the sleeve. I know everyone here has said that they have no regrets. Make sure with all your heart that you will not have any regrets and you are ready. There are so many new sleevers that wasn't ready. It sounds nice to have doctors say you will lose all of this weight . I know that this is going to be a life change and you can't go back after its over..I chose the sleeve because I couldn't control my weight and for health reason's. Friend I do wish you all the luck in the world. But I guess to answer the question I would do it a million times over. I started my pre op diet weighing 385 and today the 9th I weigh 354..

Nope! None! I tried everything on my own! I lost 50 pounds a 100 times! I have realized since having my surgery that I was doing my part prior to surgery it was just my huge stomach and the grhelin hormone working against me. Now I have a body that will work with me and not against me. And one that will reward me for my efforts now. I finally feel safe inside somebody else's wonderful body!

OMG!! I just want to say how excited I feel reading these comments. I have the "usual" story and have finally come to the realization that I need to do this for myself and my family. I have been to a seminar and I will hopefully be setting the surgery date tomorrow (I will be self-pay with insurance reimbursement to move things along quicker). Thank you everyone for your insights about both the good and bad with getting the sleeve. I feel very well-informed and comfortable with my decision!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
