Weight loss,,does this sound right?

Recommended Posts

I'm 2.5 weeks out...lost a good amount the first week I think it was 7 lbs. The next week I weighed on my own scale but the scale at doc and mine do not match. I'm just going with my scale and it put me at about -24lbs in 2 wks. I've been weighing daily for the past week and it seems I'm losing about .5lbs a day---so minus 3-3.5 a week. Sound about right? I think I like that number. :D

Congrats! I averaged 1 pound a day for the first 45 days. Then I slowed down.... I now average 2.5 pounds a week or about 10 per month. I had a stall at week 3 that lasted for about a week. Since then I've had 2 more stalls but when I kick my Protein up and make sure I'm getting my liquids in the scale starts moving again.Good luck!

For the first 2 weeks, I averaged 1 lb a day and then it tapered to a stall and then I was back to .8-1 lbs. Some days it averages only a .4 loss or something like that. Since Dec 8th I have lost 30 lbs, so some days are better than others and some are not!!!

My first week I lost a big huge 15lbs. My 2nd week I lost 7lbs. My 3rd week was another 5 lbs. My 4th week was another 7lbs. My 5th week I stalled "was in the hospital for 9 days hooked up to nutrients so I didn't loose/gain anything. My 6th week I have lost another 6lbs. So all in all I am down 40lbs since my surgery on December 21st. I am now going into my 7th week and I am ready for the scales to move some more even if it is a little I will be thrilled.. Congrats on your weight loss journey it's a wonderful experience!!

My first week I lost 11. lbs. and was really thrilled with that, but every week thereafter has been less -- 3 lbs lost each of the past two weeks ... today is my one month surgiversary (yay!) and I am officially down 21 lbs. from my last pre-op weigh in the day before surgery. Like MommyTawnie I am SO CLOSE to ONEderland -- was hoping to get there by Valentine's Day but not sure if I will make it. I need to lose more than 3.5 lbs. to make it, so at the rate I'm going I'll miss my goal by a few days.

I do find myself comparing my weight loss results to others and I know I shouldn't do it -- I'm not in a race or anything -- but still I do it. I believe my weight loss is on the low end of average for my starting weight/BMI so I'm not really complaining, but I am envious of people who can lose quickly. However, I also know I am not doing EVERYTHING properly ... I still struggle to get all my fluids in daily, and still favor carbs over Protein (which was pretty easy to do in the mushy stage ... now that I'm entering the solid food stage I'm going to up my Protein intake for sure), and have only exercised sporadically. And, I cheated yesterday with a carby snack watching the super bowl. So maybe I could be average or high-average, but I've got some work to do.

Hi, Kris--

We are a week apart and I have lost 19 lbs, so like you I feel like I am losing slowly, not like some people who lose 75 lbs in two months...However, it's 19 lbs that isn't coming back and I have never lost 19 lbs in 3 weeks before. I have not cheated, my carbs are below 50 each day, and I am getting at least 60 gms of protein and 60 oz. of Water in each day. I think metabolisms are just different between people. As long as the scale is trending down, I am okay. Who knows, in six months I might be at goal! With you!

I don't think this is unusual for someone starting out over 300 pounds. It should level off and slow down soon, which will be a good thing too because you don't want to keep losing like that for months and months. At some point it would probably catch up with you Healthwise.

Congratulations on your surgery and weight loss!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
