Not too Happy with my Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Ok I am almost 4 weeks post op. And since the day i came home from the hospital I have only lost 18lbs! I was 205 when I came home and now I am 187! I just feel like this isn't enough weight. I am on softs and basically just snack on multigrain crackers with cheese, and eat soft foods like chicken and potatoes. I dont overeat! I have made the mistake of eating too much a few times and learned I need to slow it down! I just dont know if its normal I have hit a stall and only like 2lbs in 1.5weeks!

It is normal and it has happend to many of us!! I was a little freaked out when I hit my first stall and my second too! LOL I have since learned to just keep with my plan, get my Protein in each day and make sure I'm working out and the weight will come off! At first I really thought I would lose really fast since I couldn't eat so much but that just isn't the case. Your body goes into starvation mode for a bit until it all adjusts and it will adjust!! I am now down 49lbs in three months and even though somedays I feel that I should lose a little quicker I remind myself that I have NEVER lost this much weight in this short amount of time before!!!

Stalls happen. You mentioned snacking on crackers and having potatoes. Have you been tracking your actual intake to make sure you getting enough calories, Protein and carbs?

If you aren't getting in enough, your weight loss can stall especially if you're working out. If you are eating too many carbs, and not enough Protein, you might lose like you want to lose. You may have to evaluate the amount of calories are coming from protein, and the amount coming from carbs and fat. Every individual is different, but if you want the losing to pick up again, try shaking up something. Cut carbs, increase protein, increase clear fluids, and move more are the same things I tell everyone that posts about stalling.

Everyone is different in the amount of weight they will loose over the first few months. Don't be upset with an 18lb lost would you have been able to get that 18lbs off by yourself? Plus another thing to look at you are starting off with less weight to loose than most others on here as well.. You will loose the weight you just have to give it time!!!

I, too feel like I am losing very slowly. It is now two months after my surgery and I have only lost about 32 pounds and the majority of it was in the first 4 weeks. Now that I am on regular food, I am still eating very little, and whatever I do eat I try to make sure it is just Protein. I know that I am not drinking as much as I should, because I just get too full. I have started to excersise again, about 40 minutes a day, 3-4 days a week on a recumbent bike (I have a bad back), so I hope that starts to help. I do feel very discouraged that after major surgery I really thought it would come off faster. When I was on Atkins a number of years ago, I think the weight came off faster. Of course the drawback was that after I lost 100 pounds and then went off the diet, I since gained it all back. I started the surgery weighing 265 and now weigh about 233. I know I see a difference in my clothes and in my face, and of course people are praising me, but again, I still wish it were more. I guess I just need to have patience and eventually it will come off. Good luck to all.

I had surgery 12/1 and have only lost 20 lbs. It is frustrating. My dr told me to look at it as I have lost 23% of what I want to lose in less than 2 months. He had me raise my calories and my carbs and the weight is starting to come off a little faster now. It is different for everyone. High Protein and low carb did not work for me. I have to do equal amounts of carbs and protein to lose.

I'm right there with you. I'm 8 weeks out and I've only lost 4 pounds in the past 3 weeks. I mean, really?? I'm eating very low carb and getting in about 600 calories. I'm exercising (yesterday I burnt 3000 calories - I have a body bugg that measures how many calories you burn) and doing what I'm supposed to. I'm just hoping my body will respond soon.

Good luck!

I just got off my second stall. I really looked over the forum at different posts regarding stalls and slow weight lost. I increased my calories (I am barely getting in 600 as I still cannot eat much) for a day or two. I lowered my carbs and over the weekend I probably walked over miles. The scale finally moved yesterday :D . Of course, I could say it was the new scale (my husband did buy me a new scale as I kept saying the other one was broken)  I am down 38 pounds since my sleeve was down on December 1st. It may be slower than what I want, but I am still losing and I am at my lowest weight since 1988.

I have lost 20 pounds my first month and I am fine with it. I am a revision, so I expected my body to fight me. My clothes are getting lose and my face looks thinner. I will take whatever loss I can get at this point. I do plan to do more than walking on the treadmill next week. I know it is time to step it up! I have been eating about 800 calories and day and 50 carbs.

I know what you mean. My surgery was on 01/03/2011 and I've lost a total of 22 lbs. since surgery. I think the problem is we're expecting tooo much. We've been given a tool to work with not a magic bullet. I'm beginning to realize that it took a long time for me to get to 361 lbs (day of surgery). Now that I've taken this step, I'm going to take it one day at a time. Good luck to you, my Darlin'.

I agree Becca. I think being a revision really humbles someone, especially when the last surgery didn't bring the hope that was promised.

You've done fabulous! I lost 19 Lbs in my first month sleeved and I was way overjoyed!!!

I've lost 19 pounds in almost 4 weeks and I actually think it is a LOT. I think people are expecting it to all drop off suddenly and it is dropping off pretty fast. But it's also perspective. I look at someone who lost 18 pounds in a month and think wow. But reading other people dropping 30 pounds in a month will heighten expectations. They may lose slower the next few months. Let the body do it's own thing as long as you are doing yours, be happy with it! who would lose 18 pounds in a month on weightwatchers? Hah, not me!

The thing is, we often think we stall around week 2 or 3 but I think that's because our bodies are adjusting to surgery and the sudden 1st or 2nd week of massive weight loss. The body thinks "woahh, slow down a bit" and then it's off again. Be positive and look to the future, don't get stuck on numbers cos in the long run, this will be but a distant memory!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
