When Can I have COFFEE!!!

Recommended Posts

My place is crazy strict on all of their rules. This is one they are less tight on. Decaf immediately (as soon as you want it) and regular coffee at 3 months. They say caffeine irritates the stomach a bit but by 90 day you should be well past healing to where it would matter. My goal is to get back to the hot and ice tea. I have the decaf tea bags but they are just not the same. I might switch to coffee for a while. I don't mind decaf coffee.

Hi Everyone,

I'm 19 days post op and feeling great. No pain, no reflux, no gas problems.

I am not a big coffee drinker, but especially on the weekends, I like to sip coffee and read the newspaper. When did you start to drink coffee??? I do have Decaf in the house but I'm afraid of drinking it.

Thanks,

Nina

I HAD COFFEE SINCE DAY 5 WITH TRUVIA AND NO SUAGAR ADDED Creamer, I DRINK CAFFEFINE COFFEE AND HAVE HAD ZERO ISSUES.

My diet said no caffeine beverages for 1 week if you had acid reflux. Well, I did not have that, but did have a hiatal hernia repair and gallbladder removal along with my sleeve. So I waited until today - day 8, and am having my first coffee now :D - I made it like a cafe au lait - 1/2 c coffee, 1/2 cup hot milk (lowfat of course), and 1 tbsp sf french vanilla creamer. It tastes wonderful, but as slow as I have to go it will probably be cold long before I finish the cup LOL.

I drink a lot of coffee both caff and decaff haven't had much problems but sometimes wonder if it's slowing me down. I only put milk or skim milk in it but either way that's 12 grams a cup and i'm drinking several cups a day, granted I don't use a cup of milk in each coffee. I get in at least 72-96 ozs of Water as well.

It bothered me a bit in the beginning and caused acid reflux so I stopped and started again at 4 weeks, from that point on it has been fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
