9 days out from surgery, energy level at rock bottom!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I felt really pretty good the first few days after surgery, but have noticed my energy level is a lot lower than it was the day I was released from the hospital. Last night I slept nearly 10 hours and even after taking a shower (which usually perks me up) I have extremely low energy. I am just starting my first Protein Drink of the day (Nectar) and hope I feel better after that, but is it normal for your energy level to be lower after 9 days than after the first few days? I also have been battling a cold for the last 5 days, which I am sure hasn't helped, but even as my cold seems to be mostly gone I find my energy level is at rock bottom. have to go back to work in 2 days so if I don't get some energy back here soon I don't know how I'm going to make it through a full work day on Tuesday!

I don't know what nectar is, but I can say from my own experience that I think you need MORE Protein and Vitamns. When I don't get my Protein and vitamins.I am exhausted... but when I do, I feel great.

Are you getting the 60G daily....???? It is hard to do, try making your own Protein Shake and add some Yogurt drink to it to pump it up. I like the unjury Protein Powder.

Good luck, Cinderella

Hi Cinderella,

I think you are right that I wasn't getting enough Protein. I had my husband pick up a container of pho (vietnamese soup) broth for me yesterday and drank it all, and today when I woke up I was feeling better. Tomorrow I go on full liquids which includes Protein Drinks made with milk/soy milk and I think that will help too -- I have unjury chocolate splendor and vanilla to try out. Also trying yogurt starting tomorrow, so my Protein grams are going to go way up compared to what they have been.

Hi Kris,

I am feeling a bit tired myself. Matter of fact I haven't done much of anything this entire three day weekend. I have just sat around the house because I have no energy.

I am sorry to hear that you aren't doing well...you seemed to great that day we talked at the hospital.

I hope that you start to feel better soon. Keep in touch.

E

Hi, You may not have the energy because you may not be getting enough good carbs. My nutrionist ( Mandy ) told me not to go below 30 carbs ever and go up to 50 carbs if I exercise. Mandy said if you go under 30 carbs you will get sluggish. Monitor your carbs every day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
