How long was your recovery period?

Recommended Posts

This may not be the appropriate place for this question, but here goes.

When I went to the orientation, we were told that the recovery period was anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks and that we could take off up to 8 weeks of work. I'm looking at the upper limit and kind of freaking out because I can only afford to take off 2 maybe 3 weeks at the most.

What was your recovery time and how long before you were back to work?

Thanks rolleyes.gif

I went back to work after a week for half days. I was back full time after 2 wks. I was a little tired that second week back, but that was it. I am 6 wks out and have felt completely fine to do whatever since about wk 3.

It will depend on the the type of job you have. I had surgery on a Wednesday and was back to work the following Wednesday. I work from home as a customer service rep 4 days a week/10 hours days. I was definately tired but I went to bed early alot and I got up from my desk every hour the first week and walked during my lunch time. I had a high tolerance of pain so I felt ready to go back to work.

My Doc will only accept 6 weeks off. but might let me go earlier if I am doing well. I only have 3 weeks sick time saved up, so this is going to cost me...

It definitely depends on what kind of job you have. I was off for 2 weeks and felt good about going back to work, but I work a desk job. There are of course some no lifting over 5-10 pounds restrictions to following for several weeks after. I was back to full capacity in 8 weeks as I am required to be able to lift 75 pounds if needed.

Thanks, that's helpful. I had my gallbladder out two years ago and was out of work for 2 weeks. I'm thinking that it's going to be similar for this.

I had my surgery last Wed. (1/12/11) and planning to return to work Tue., (1/18/11). I have a desk job, for the most part, but will be limited to only answering the phones for at least a week.

I'm a teacher and I took 4 weeks off. I feel that was an acceptable time. I felt dine but needed time to adjust to eating again.

I, too, am a teacher, and I had surgery the week before Christmas. I took only 3 days before the break, and then went back when school started up.

Hi, I felt well enough after a week but it does depend on what kind of work. You can not lift anything and bending down is a little tricky the first few weeks. It also depend if you have any complications, if you are getting all your Protein and fluids in.

I took 4 weeks off. I felt back to normal by week 2, but I was still very weak (from not eating) and took many naps on a need to basis. 4 weeks was perfect for me, I work in an office. Everyone is different. I had a pretty tough time post surgery. I've heard some people go back to work only after a few days, go figure.

My doc would only give me 6 weeks. He said he might take a week off after he sees how it goes. I think this is too much, but it will be great to have the time to get used to the sleeve and eating and such. Im sure the weight loss will show by then too...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
