I'm SLEEVED!!!

Day 1 post op is going GREAT. I'm in very little pain, a lot of belching and first sip of Water was heaven.

Congrats on the surgery. Hope you continue to do great. Do you know why you were not required to do a pre op Liquid Protein diet?

Your liver lies in front of your stomach. So it has to be manipulated in order to perform the sleeve. The pre op liquid diet helps to eliminate the visceral fat around the liver. Plus dehydration is critical post op. If you start off well dehydrated it will lessen your chances of becoming dehydrate post op.

I was obviously heavily sedated when I half read your question. The reason I didn't have to do a pre op Protein diet is because my bmi was 37 (which is less than 40). I was approved for surgery bc I have really bad sleep apnea. I did the pre op diet because I gain 10+lbs having food funerals. The day of my surgery I was 216.4lbs.

I didn't make my goal of 219 for the 4th. I gained 1.5 lbs. I had not taken my diuretic for my blood pressure and I had not been drinking enough H20. So.... I'm depressed... I can only blame myself! I am starting to work out tomorrow. I plan to walk 2.2 miles a day and use my resistance band to improve my upper body strength and dust off my ab lounger. I've was in Vegas for the 4th and I ate 1 fried chicken strip and a few bites of macaroni and cheese...I am really angry and feel like I've failed myself..

Failure is not recognizing that you had a lapse. Failure is eating the fried chicken every day. But one chicken strip? You are being way too hard on yourself. I get that though. We are our own worst critics.

Hi everybody!! Super excited to have found this thread. My dad is black and my mom white and I have a mix of genes from both sides.... High blood pressure from my dad. Scarring easily and wounds take longer to heal (no diabetes). Curly hair. I'm worried about the wounds taking longer to heal and with scarring. I'm also worried about losing my hair.

Five days out and I'm having trouble getting in the required protein! Any suggestions?

It's really tough to get your Protein the first week or two - the stomach is still angry from the surgery and swollen. If you can tolerate Protein Shakes Premeir has ones that have 30 grams of protein. Its easy to have two of them in a day to get to 60 grams. It is difficult to get there with food, unless you puree a steak or something. I am diabetic and my wounds healed very quickly. But I suppose that most of that is due to genetics. Yeah, I'm gonna have scars though, but those scars are a badge of honor. A road map of where we have been and how far we've come.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
