About how much should I eat at one time?

Recommended Posts

I had my procedure 4 weeks ago today. So far I have lost 21 pounds which I am pretty happy with. My question is about how much I should eat at one time. Is there a certain volume, like 1/2 cup or cup? I think I have heard with the band that the tummy can only hold 1/2 cup. Is it the same with the vertical sleeve? I am really having problems knowing the amount to eat. It seems to me that I can eat too much at one time, but then when I think about what I used to eat, it is definitley a much smaller amount. I guess I am looking for a guideline. I don't want to undo the surgery or prolong the healing process.

Thanks.

I am also 4 weeks out and I can only eat about a 1/2 cup at a time, maybe a cup, but no more than that. I have read that after sleeve surgery your tummy only holds 1 - 5 ounces of food. Just remember to chew, chew, chew and take it slow!

I agree...1/2 cup is about all I can do...if I eat more than that...I am too full. Don't do too much too soon...or you will definitely regret it. I have never been one to throw up...but I've thrown up 4 times since surgery...I have officially learned my lesson.

GOOD LUCK!!!

I am a little over 4 weeks myself and am having issues with how much is enough. Usually 6 oz. is it.....if it is softer you can go a bit more but it depends what it is. I have had an issue over the last 2 days with eating too quickly or not chewing food enough and I threw up. It was pretty awful...almost makes you scared to try different things. I just have to learn to take it slower as per my dietitian and she recommended only eating dime sized amounts and chew them up really well. Also, make sure if you eat meat that it is moist enough.

I asked my surgeon just today how much volume the new stomach can hold. He told me 60-80cc(mL). One fl ounce is equal to just under 30mL. 1/4 cup is 2 ounces. So I figure I have about a 3 ounce stomach which is why 1/3 cup fills me pretty good. Start using measuring cups and see how much you are really eating. I have been eating right out of them as then there is no question as to how much I have.

I am 7 1/2 weeks post-op and I can eat about 2 oz of meat with about 2 oz of veggies at meal! Fluids go through a lot fast and I can have more at each time!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
