I had my surgery on Dec 13th. I have lost 19 pounds postop and began my puree stage on today. I took two weeks off and went back to work Monday. I am so exhausted. When I get home I fall asleep and wake up for an hour then go back to sleep for the night. I don't get a lot of liquids in once I get home because I am sleeping so much. I have also started getting leg cramps during the day. Kaiser, the one I go to does not want us having Protein Drinks, so today was my first bit of Protein, pureed chicken salad. I am also taking Calcium, Multivitamin, and B12. Was anyone else this exhausted? I'm assuming my body is still recovering and along with lack of food this is making me tired. I just worry about getting dehydrated because I am only drinking about 30-40 oz a day.

My surgery was Dec 6 and yes I am tired. But a little curious why they tell you no Protein Shakes never heard that before. I am REQUIRED to drink 3 a day or 70 gram each day.

The kaiser that I went to for my surgery says you can live without Protein for two weeks. They think shakes are soft calories and don't want people to get used to shakes. Still don't quite get it but I'm a rule follower.

Wow...I can't beleive they do not want you to have any Protein drinks. I had 2 a day for the first 2 weeks as this also counted to fluids. Have you tried drinking gatorade or something similar to that for the electrolytes. I know others have suggested that. I have moved on to the semi soft food stage and they still want us drinking a Protein Shake a day. Every place is different. I use Carnation instand Breakfast suger free....Since it isn't classified as a Protein Drink maybe you can do that as not be going against their guidelines. I am still sleeping a good 8 hours a night after surgery and I use to only get 6 before surgery. Good luck and keep plugging away.

I am not getting as much Protein as I should, but I have been drinking one Smoothie King Gladiator shake for 45 g of protein and 180 calories. It is very easy to drink and thank god for them. The Unjury was killing me before surgery.

I forgot to mention that im getting a cold! I spoke with the nut last night and she said being tired was normal...but still, I get off work at 3pm, am asleep by 4:30, awake from 8-9 then back to sleep until 5:30am. I think I am going to try some gatorade tomorrow and see if that helps at all!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
