I went to fill a Nexium prescription because my doctor wanted me to start taking it before surgery. The insurance would only fill a 30 day supply for $90.00. THAT IS CRAZY! Can anyone tell me what they take and if there is a generic of anything? I already have to pay my $ 3000.00 hospital co-pay tomorrow for my sleeve and I just feel there has to be something more reasonable. I see my doctor tomorrow afternoon and would like some ideas. Can someone explain to me why we take PPI's after surgery? My doc said nothing about it, and didnt prescribe one post surgery. I know ot is an acid reducer. But is it mandatory?

Thanks, sorry to sound dumb, the meds make it hard to focus on what I want to say. I am day four post op.

I believe its to reduce the chances of getting an ulcer on the staple line, and curbing the acid reflux that some get after the sleeve... also Tif says it reduces hunger sensations caused by acid.
