can anyone recommend a good protein bar

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 5 weeks ago, and never drank Protein Shakes. Now I'm able to eat 9oz of Protein a day and 1/4 cup fruit or vegetable three times a day. But I can't eat that much yet and I'm only taking in maybe 40 grams of protein. I wondering if there is a any good Protein Bars and where can I buy it? I only lost about 20 pounds (30 all together) but I'm eating 400 to 600 calories a day, so i would think I would loss more.

Thank you for your help, this forum is amazing. I get more information here then at my doctors.

I use Premier Nutrition Protein bars that I buy at Costco. They have 30grams of protein, so they're filling and these actually taste pretty good. I've tried many others and these are the only ones I actually enjoy eating. There are 3 flavors per box. I think Sam's Club also sells them.

I can't help much on the Protein bar question. But I did want to say that 20 pounds in 5 weeks is awesome!

I wasn't sure how much Protein you want per bar. I really like the Atkins Endulge and Advantage bars. They are both low carb [3 or 4 net carbs] with 10 grams of Protein and 1 gram of sugar. I know there are bars with more protein, but they often have a lot of sugar too and they taste like protein bars. I think the Atkins bars taste great.

Hey Janine!

I tried a few of the Protein bars and find a good bit of them chewy and hard to "get down". I tried a Protein cookie and I LOVE it! Its not chewy and very easy to chew into tiny tiny pieces biggrin.gif. It doesnt have as much protein as a lot of bars on the market, but they are yummy and are easy to eat :) Here is the link so you can see it with all the nut facts and stuff <3

I hope that helps cool.gif

I love these Quest bars. You have to get them online but they are so tasty. Low net carbs and no nasty sugar alcolhols. Peanut Butter is the best.

Texas T is right, I have the Premier nutrition Protein bars and the shakes. costco sell the shakes and bars. Sams sell the bars only. The protein is: protein blend soy protein isolate, whey concentrate, and whey protein hydrolysate. 60 grams of protein total with the 1 bar + 1 shake.< /p>

I thought to try these before surgery and had a bad reaction to the alcohol sugars which I am fairly sure caused a rapid drop in my blood sugar. I would feel lightheaded, then flushed, confused, shaky, and nauseous. They tasted great, but I am scared to try it now post surgery.

Thank you for everyone's advice and support. I'm going to try the Protein bars at cosco. Also I never heard of alcohol sugars before, its that new?

Hope everyone has a nice weekend, Janine

I would try a small amount of sugar alcahols before investing in a whole box of something containing it... it makes me feel awful, gas, bloating and pain. Some have no problem at all.

The Oh Yeah Protein wafer bars are "okay". Most of the ones out there are chalked full of carbs and sugar alcohol which gives me horrific gas. I wasn't willing to eat them when I could chew up 3oz of beef Jerky, and kick the carbs and sugar alcohol.

Try them all, that look good. The advice i was given was if the Total Carbs is double or more than the protien, don't eat it (got too many carbs). In Texas we have Kroger that has multiple brands always on sale 10 bars for $10, so i get to try multiple brands and flavors.

Beef Jerky seems really good, I'm 6 weeks out now do you think its safe? I'm also thinking about Protein bars so I get a little something sweet too. I miss having a little bit of something sweet. Any suggestions?

Thank you for the great advice, Janine

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
