I'm sorry that you are in such pain and I completely understand. My doctor sent me home from the hospital with Loratab for pain, Nexium - to take daily and something for nausea - which I haven't taken because I have not been nauseous. I am taking GAS X about 3 times in a 24 hr period. My surgery was this past Monday and as of yesterday I was still in a lot of pain. I called my doctor's office because I was concerned. His nurse told me that this kind of pain is normal the first week. Even though it was done laprascopically, we have just had major surgery. Yesterday afternoon I noticed I was not as sore. It's 5:19 am here in Texas and I actually do feel less sore today but I have a terrible pain on my right side - which is a first - it has not been hurting. I think it may be gas. I have not taken Milk of Magnesia yet but I plan to start today when my husband gets off work and can buy me some. I am sooooo ready for Monday so I can have this drain taken out. I was sort of worried this morning that it had gotten clogged because there doesn't seem to be as much draining anymore. My husband examined the tube and assures me it is still draining. I have only been able to sleep on my back or my left side. Not completely comfortable but comfortable enough to fall asleep and I can actually get about 4 hrs of sleep at a time right now. Did you notice that you gained weight? I weighed myself when I got home from hospital and had gained 8 pounds (Fluid of course). When I got up this morning I am down to 328.8 so that puts me down about 6 lbs since surgery. Please keep in touch - i will be happy to help you in anyway I can. You can contact me here or on my personal e-mail if that would be easier. I hope you feel better soon. I am just so thankful for this site so that we can see that what we are going through is pretty common and other sleevers have experienced similar situations. Hope you have a better day.

It's so crazy the differences there are from each of us! I have no pain and haven't had expect for Gas Pains and those are a PITA!!! LOL Also, no where near constipated, actually the oppisite! How much are each of you drinking an hour? I can do 60cc of Water with no problems in an hour now and think by tomorrow I might shoot for more! I was getting a headache today so I tried the liquid tylenol they sent me home with and nope, tummy doesn't like that, I got one small sip and my felt icky! LOL I can say that as everyday as gone on I have felt better and better! I too get my drain out on Monday and I can't wait! This thing is annoying!

I was in pain for a while. At first it was pretty bad pain, and I too, could only sleep for about 2 hrs at a time. When I got home from the hospital, the first few nights I spent walking around a lot, because that was more comfortable than laying down. Not sure if it was gas pain or what. I think it was a combination of everything....gas, just pain from being cut open, and my muscles were sore. The bad pain was maybe 3-4 days post-op, but got better every day. They gave me liquid vicoden, and I mostly only used it the first week at night to help me sleep. I took GasX and that seemed to help the bloated feeling. It took maybe 1.5-2 weeks before I could sleep on my stomach comfortably. It was hard to sit up for that amount of time too without using my arms, because it just felt like the muscles were all so sore and weak. I am 6.5 weeks out now, and it doesn't feel the same laying on my stomach, but it doesn't hurt anymore. It can just get uncomfy after too long if I don't move around. I think that will eventually go away. Everyone heals different and experiences pain differently. Just let your body heal and do what the surgeon tells you, and you should be back to good soon. It seems like forever that you are in pain, but when you look back later, you hardly remember the pain. I had 200 pounds to lose, so I am sure its harder on your body the more overwieght you are. Also, how healthy you are going in to surgery plays a role too. My surgery went very well, and I didn't even have to get a drain. There are so many things that can affect how you feel and heal. I hope you feel better soon!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
