Hi Losers :) (I hope to be one myself next month!!),

Can you please offer some advice on what I should have on-hand at home after the surgery? I know I need pretien powder, broths, sugar-free Jello, etc. but what about the other stuff. I have seen posts about Hibiclens (anti-bacterial soap), B12, chewable multi-Vitamins, heating pad, etc. The more prepared I can be I think the better I will feel going into surgery.

Thanks for your help!

Creamy Soups, greek yogurt, sugar free custards/puddings, GasX strips, those moistened wipes for the bathroom (with the liquids in, liquids out rule, they help prevent irritation especially if you have diarrhea post-op like some of us did). Lip gloss/chapstick my lips stayed so dry for so long and that was a lifesaver.

Another thing that was a must-have for me was my Cuisinart stick blender. I used it every day to make my Protein shakes. You can just mix it in the glass you drink out of (no cleaning out a blender, etc.). You might want to also have some frozen fruit and flavored extracts to blend in with the shakes.< /p>

Warm tea also tasted so good after surgery. And I found some amazing Protein hot chocolate in several flavors from a brand called WonderSlim (can buy online from lots of websites - I use DietDirect.com). They taste exactly like regular hot chocolate and have 12g of protein per serving. They were very soothing on a cold day.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
