I haven't had that many responses. Two, actually. Anyways, I started my cycle a few days after surgery (which was early) but it still hasn't stopped. Mind you, I was sleeved on the 27th, so it's been almost a month. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this to be expected or should I be paying a visit to my doctor? I know, it seems like the logical thing to do would be to go to the doctor but since I don't have insurance, I try to limit visits unless absolutely necessary <_<

I think everyone's cycle gets a little funky post-op (mine did)...but one month of menstruating seems a little severe (and annoying....?!!). Are you on birth control which should be regulating your cycle? Is it heavy bleeding or light spotting? Are you able to call your surgeon or PCP and ask for advice over the phone without having to go in and pay an office fee?

I am on birth control. I didn't stop taking it, even on the day of surgery, because my surgeon said it wasn't necessary to. It's not heavy, but it's not light spotting either. It's like one continuous 4th day flow. LOL. But seriously, maybe i should call them.......

I've read about this happening a lot and I had mine for probably an extra week. I wouldnt' worry at all about it, that's very normal after surgery.

Mine usually last 3 days and after surgery I got it a week early and it lasted for almost 3 weeks.

I think the sudden huge change just shocks the system a bit.

Ugh, I feel for you. I got mine about 3 days post-op and about 8 days early. I'm hoping it is just a normal cycle and not a continuous deal. I think I have read about a lot of women who have odd/irregular periods during their healing and recovery time. Since you are already on the pill, I would lean towards seeing your obgyn just becuase there might be a better pill for you to take during this time.

Sorry it is such a pain! I often forget about the womans forum. Oops. Will try to make a piont of visiting over there more often.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
