Not losing, and needing encouragement

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I have lost 57 pounds since my surgery on May 29th. I know that is a great number, but I am bummed. I see how others that were at my starting weight or less losing way more than I am. I really need a boost of encouragement. The refrigerator is calling my name, and I am afraid I will start binging like I have done for so much of my life when I am stressed or depressed. Help!

Stock your fridge and pantry with healthy alternatives. When you want to snack, grab some beef Jerky or cheese. Not saying it's great to give in to these old nasty habits, but I'd rather grab some beef Jerky than grabbing the Funyuns or cake icing, right? ??

You can do this, and the scale will move. shake things up, focus on you, your Protein intake and start moving if you can work out.

Yep, I agree with Tiffykins. Also, track your intake - down to the last crumb - for a full week and see where you're at. Are you eating too much or too little? Do you need to refocus on better food options or eat more calories? Have you started an exercise regimen yet? Why not add in a nice long evening walk to shake things up a bit?

You can overcome this hurdle and continue on towards your goal, but you need to take control of the situation and correct whatever the problem is in order to do so.

Get back on track! Don't settle for less than your goal when it's possible to attain.

I was going to suggest journaling too. Write every single thing down and take a look at how much carbs, how much fat, how much Protein of course and calories. Add more Water. Good luck. You know you can do it!! Get back into the mindset and remember how you were feeling just before surgery!

57 lbs!!! That's awesome! At least the number on the scale went down not up. You should feel wonderful about that.

I have read several posts similar to yours where people are adament about the number on the scale and comparing their loss with others and it's easy to do but Stop!!! No 2 people are alike. What everyone is failing to realize is that they have upped their grams of Protein which causes more muscle building which weighs more than fat, so the scale is not going to move. So you may be getting the wrong type of Protein. Lower your intake of the meat and try a faster digesting protein such as whey or Soy.

Also you probably are exercising more which is building muscle and causing you to stay at your plateau. Lower your intake by at least 10 grams for 2-3 days and up your cardio. Try to do at least 20 mins of heart rate elevating cardio at least 2 times a day. You should be able to move past your plateau this way by allowing your body to feed off it's fat and not muscle. And measure, measure, measure! Your body will drop inches before it even registers on the scale.

Keep your head up!! You're doing a great job!!! You'll get where you want to be before you know it!

Holli, I can relate, but please don't follow my path. I thought I would just fly through this, but I'm back where I started. I'm eating just about anything I want and have not lost any more weight! I have had tendonitis & plantar fascitis since the beginning so I haven't been exercising which is probably a big part that my weight loss was so slow, although now it's like I threw in the towel because I've never overcome the eating issues. Thank you for your honesty because I've avoided this site...I feel like a failure. Any chance you would like to chat? It's hard telling people who have not had this surgery what's going on and how I feel! Thanks Holli & everyone else!!! Sheryl

How can we help? Even though you are eating "what you want", the portion sizes must still be very small. Get back on your plan! You can do this! We are here to support you!!!!!!

I have stalled pretty bad. It's been two months and I have not lost a pound. I know my thyroid is not functioning well. I saw an endocrinologist last week and have a follow up appointment on Monday.

I am also upset with the food intake. I can pretty much eating everything. Even a bagel (half) which was impossible to eat during lap band.

I have a little hope and anxiously awaiting to see what doc has to say on Monday.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
