HELP!I need some advice

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone yesterday I was 2 weeks post-op and i'm feeling real good I have been walking 2 miles everyday since 4 days out, on Thursday I started Curves, I am getting in 50-60 Protein daily, 64 oz of fluids daily and eating 1/2 cup soft foods 3x day. My problem is I have only lost 5lbs since surgery and I don't understand. I have had this nightmare that I had this surgery and still can't lose the weight is that even possiable since I only take in between 500-700 cal a day?

Stalls happen, and are very common early out. Your body is still healing, and trying to figure out what the heck you've done to it. You might still have some Fluid retention from surgery, and the scale will move. If you didn't pre-op, take some measurements because while the scale might not move, you will be losing inches. Fat is bulky, and takes up a bunch of space. Muscle is lean, takes up less space, but still weighs the same as a pound of fat. Your clothes might start fitting differently, try to notice the little things about your body to keep your spirits up.

Your body will lose weight, but don't fret right now on the numbers. Logically, with your calorie, Protein and Water intake, you'll lose weight. Give your body time to adjust, and don't be so hard on yourself.

I was feeling the same way. I will be 2 weeks post op on Monday I had my sleeve done shortly after you and had a few issues nothing major, However my plan is to start working out this week more, i do walk now but not measuring distance or time just until i feel tired ,it seems you are doing all the right things i wish i can say the same, I was fretting about the weight loss too and just focused more on the inches I know gonna ut it in my mind that this is not going to work , And with your determination i am confident that it will work for you as well so don't be too hard on yourself its all gonna work out!! I want to know How in the world are you getting all that Protein in? I cant tolerate soft foods so i backed up to the full liquids stage again i will try again next week with the soft mushie stage. But share with e your protein intake I need that.

Take care Good Luck

I have been lucky in the food department I can eat 1/2 cup cottage cheese 13 protein x3 and then i'll drink 4 or 5 cups of Decaf coffee with a shot of slimfast low carb 20 protein it is really good too. I don't get in 59 every day but I try to get as close as possible get tired of cottage cheese can't wait until next phase 10/19 but I did eat some fish from long john silvers Thursday night took crust off and ate the fish only was able to eat about a quarter of the peice but didn't have no problems with it. Thank you for your input I really hope I can inprint this into my brain even thought I know it it still seems like a dream that I have waited for all of my life.

Kim,

Why are you working yourself so hard this soon after surgery?!!!

Your body needs to rest and heal at some point. Walking is great, but you don't need to work yourself into the ground at a time when you can barely take in enough nutrients to support a body at rest. At some point, you may crash and burn. Not trying to be judgemental, just concerned. Take it easy...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
