17 Days Post Op - Energy Levels

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I'm new here! I'm day 17 post op and while my recovery seems to be going smoothly, I've noticed that my overall energy levels are low beginning in the afternoon. I'm taking my supplements, hitting my Protein targets and drinking plenty of fluids. My suspicion is that it's a no/low-carb thing... Has anyone else experienced this and does this subside over time? Perhaps when more foods are introduced into the diet?

My energy level was so sad for the first month, around week 5 I noticed it picking up and now that I am going to the gym I have even more energy then before the surgery. I think it is a combo of getting over the surgery itself, starting to get more from the food you are cleared to eat and losing weight and getting into that fat burning mode. Just try to stay hydrated, get at least 60grams of Protein a day and take a good Multivitamin. I think your levels should even out. If you still feel really run down by two or so months out you may need to have some blood work done to see what might be going on. Otherwise it sounds pretty normal for day 17 to me.

My energy level was low during the first 4-5 weeks, especially late afternoon to early evening. Even though you are doing all of the right things, your body is still recovering from surgery. I started feeling an abundance of energy during week 6. I hope it continues!

I "crashed" a few times in weeks 3 and 4. I'm into week 5 now and starting to feel better. I really haven't changed much from last week to this week.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
