Do we need a B12 supplement?

Recommended Posts

Okay at my appt. yesterday I asked if I needed a B12 supplement, he said no. I asked if I needed Calcium? he said did you take one before? I said no. So he said no. I think as a woman, I probably DO need one, but I guess I'd have to have a bone scan and detemine that through my primary physician. He also said not to worry about this. In my blood test that I guess they will do, they will check all levels and see if there's anything I'm in need of. For now, I'm on just a Multivitamin. Interesting all the different things from different doctors!

I take sublingual B12 from Healthy Direct. I also take calcium citrate every day. I just had the results of a bone density scan and I am 92% of the age matched mean, which is normal with very minor osteopaenia. I have been post menopausal for 14 years which is unusual for a 52 year old, so I think I am doing pretty well under the circumstances.

I also take generic multivit, high dose Vit D, Q10, marine collagen, milk thistle, Omega 3, CLA and grapefruit seed extract. I may well be a junky!!

I am taking a multi-Vitamin, but is there anything else we really should be supplementing right now? How about after the recovery stage when we are just doing our daily eating? I'm not big on swallowing pills, especially big ones, so I'm hoping we do not need a lot of Vitamins. I can handle my one chewable a day. Just curious though. I've seen it mentioned a few times. THANKS!

I'm getting a B12 (1,000 mcg) injection once a month through Kaiser.

I take Vitamin B12 sublingual along with the daily multivitamin. Sublingual are easy to absorb and you don’t have to swallow.

Your blood work should indicate your B12 levels. Mine results indicated very low so I take b12 shots. Made a huge difference in my energy.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
