Newly Banded from Boston

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was banded on May 30th by Dr Jones at BIDMC in Boston. All has gone very well with the exception of some SERIOUS gas pain in my left shoulder for about a week after surgery.

I lost 12 LBS my first week so, I am VERY EXCITED!!!!

I, unfortunately, have found myself getting hungry ALOT quicker the last few days tough and it's scaring me! Is this normal?? I won't get a fill for 6 1/2 more weeks!!

Anyway, thanks so much for the support I've alreay gotten here just reading other's experiences!

Hey there - congrats on your recient surgery! I too live in Boston and was banded just over 6 weeks ago. A couple weeks out of surgery my hunger deff started to come back, but I just worked really hard to keep within the rules, knowing that once I get my fills it would start to change. Keep in mind that this time just after surgery isnt for weight loss, but to heal. Keep in touch.

babytaffah, I also had my surgery with Dr. Jones at BIDMC. Great place and great folks to work with. Your hunger will come back as you heal but then you'll have days where it will feel tight again too. Just do what the nutrionists tell you to do and you'll do just fine. You must be headed back for your two/three week checkup soon and make sure to let them know how you're feeling. I believe, if you're course of healing goes like mine, that you'll be allowed to eat mushies after you visit. That is a big help believe me. Make sure to go slow and chew well. Congrats on your surgery and I wish you a speedy recovery!

Sherry

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
