I Feel Like I'm Starving

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 5 of my 14 day pre-op diet (I'm getting sleeved on 9/27). Some days I'm okay but others I feel like all I do all day is eat. I've been sticking to no carbs and no sugar. Well, except for when I had some honey mustard with chicken tenders the other day. The sugar in it made my whole body feel like it was alive. LOL. Anyhow, I'm wondering how others are coping. Are there any recipes you can share because I am going to strangle myself if I eat chicken and green Beans one more time, and I still have 9 days to go.

And how do I get one of those countdown ticker thingies?

It's really tough, girl! I mixed it up with fish, and lemons were my best friend (instant "sauce!") but otherwise it's truly all about the head hunger. Are you allowed to have Lean Cuisines? They have a few that are around 200 cals and if you throw it on top of a bed of broccoli or something it's pretty satisfying. That's the closest I got to feeling like I wasn't in food-jail, though.

If I'm honest with myself, I don't feel I did so great on my pre-op diet. I mean, I did the Protein shakes every morning for Breakfast and lunch, but night time is the worst-- and I threw myself a few unnecessary "good bye" parties with my favorite foods. Still, I stuck to low-cal, and only slipped on the carbs like twice, but I don't know. I feel like I could've done better. Maybe I'm being too hard on myself. I guess we'll see on Monday-- if they delay my surgery I'll know I screwed up big time!

One thing that I did find interesting is that even when I cheated, I found myself disappointed. Like I had built up whatever it was in my head so much that by the time I broke down and let myself have it, I wasn't nearly as pleased. If I had known that before I started all of this I don't think I'd have been so tempted.

Hang in there, do better than I did at least!

Thanks! I think I probably do just need to switch up the meats I'm eating. The other day I made shrimp and felt like I was in heaven. LOL. There are so many times that I want to use lemon, but I can't have lemon juice. Something about the acidity and healing.

I cheated last night and I felt like such an ass. I was doing good all dinner (steak and veggies) until my boyfriend ordered dessert. I definitely had 5 or 6 spoonfuls of the most delicious apple pie a la mode EVER! But afterward I was like, uhhh....hope I didn't just eff this up. I guess we'll see on the 27th.

Good luck to you!

It is weird how every dr has a different pre op diet. I have to do 3 days of Clear Liquids for my pre op. The other dr in the same place I am gong through makes his patients do a 10-14 day clear liquid diet. One of my friends just did bariatric surgery and had no pre op diet at all and they are a lot heavier than I am. I am sure the few bites of dessert will not affect you in the long run. The 27 is just around the corner and then you will have a great tool to help you thru this journey we are all taking together. Good luck with everything.

Hi Fleur,

Check out Jok-N-Al's sauces they are made for low carb diets and might add some interest to the chicken/fish etc.. that you're eating. Davinci sugar free syrups have 0 carbs and 0 sugar as well and you can use them in coffee, Water etc.. they come in many flavors.

There is also low carb dressings and ketchup as well.

Hang in there :-)

I feel ya. I am on a 2 week diet for my gallbladder surgery, no fat or carbs! I'm dying here. To make matters worse, dr said I will be on the same diet again when it comes time for my sleeve surgery :001_tongue:

Fleur - We are being sleeved on the same day! Like the others have said, I can't imagine that going off a little can hurt anything. I think I had told you my doctor told me just to do clear liquids on Sunday AFTER a regular Breakfast so I am not even on clear liquids for 24 hours. And that was it for the pre-op diet. So don't stress yourself out if you put a couple of wrong things in your mouth. Later on, we won't be able to do that :-)

I go my ticker at www.myfitnesspal.com. It is also where I am logging my food too. I always hated to write down what I ate but this is actually really cool because it shows all of the nutritional value etc too. And when you weigh in (whenever you'd like) and post the weight it automatically updates you ticker on this site. Very cool! Let's keep in touch so we can support each other!

hey girl! Hang tough! My dr is only requiring a 3day preop diet of clear liquids... But as for cooking ideas... I find grilling chicken and spicing it with cayenne pepper and brown sugar sweatener by splenda makes a sweet and spicy chicken that caramelizes from the brown sugar swetener.. Its quite good... Also.. You could always get spaghetti squash and make a ligt Tomato sauce from canned diced tomatoes .. This way you feel like ur eating Pasta but really ur not!! :thumbup1: good luck! The date is coming near and I'm sure you will feel great about this small struggle to get where you want to be!!

Wow... our surgeon had us on a 2 week clear liquid diet. That was rough... the nice thing about after surgery for most people is that you aren't hungry. And if you are it is nothing like it used to be. I actually visited my family yesterday and they had a huge Breakfast. I had my Protein Shake and honestly it really wasn't unbearable. I thought briefly about that sausage patty but that was it... It was nice to just see everyone. ,:)

Tomorrow's the day, Fleur!!! I hope you're doing well and ready to get started! I'm a week out now and it's definitely much easier not to eat-- you're not hungry!

We'll be rooting for ya!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
