Hi all,

I'm a ways away from surgery, and working toward that goal. But I noticed today that ever since I got my upcoming marathon appointment with my surgeon's staff at the end of September, I've been aware of what I eat, and how badly I want to eat things I haven't had in a long time.

I'm not usually much of a dessert eater, but suddenly I want dessert after every meal. It's not (my) normal, and I'm wondering if anyone here experienced that. Is this just a phase that will pass, or am I psyching myself up/out for my future?

Not sure what to make of this. Anyone have an opinion to share?

Dave

I went a little crazy and had a "this is it!" free-for-all this past week (I'm 3 weeks pre-op) and went to all my favorite restaurants and let myself have all my favorite foods that I know I won't have post-op. I'm kindof giving myself a break about it since pre-op diet/weightloss starts on Monday for me. The finality of this whole thing is really setting in-- that my life is going to change forever, so I threw the old me a little going away party, you might say.

I think you're definitely normal! me, maybe not so much hahaha

Hi Dave,

I have just gone through something similar. In the end I made a list fo all the foods I wanted to say 'good-bye' to .... It helped a lot. .. I ate far far too much  but I am also happy that I got to say a final good bye to different foods. (I didn't want to crave them on my pre-op diet.)

Hope that helps , I don't think you have anything to worry about .... :scared0:

Take care

Sue

Thanks. Nice to know it's not just me. This is such a strange journey for me. I've always been the tough-guy caregiver type, so having to ask for help and advice is foreign to what I normally do. I've never felt guilty about food (which is probably a big part of why I'm obese) but suddenly I'm having a craving and wondering if my body is pre-judging me for what I plan to do to it. It's definitely a different mental perspective.

Stay tuned...

Dave

Many of us had many "last suppers". I think it's a natural progression & for many of us a way to say "good bye" to old habits.

Just try to reign it in a bit & get ready for your pre-op diet.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
