Common Difficult to Eat Foods?

Recommended Posts

Those who have been sleeved for a while, I was wondering if there are any common foods that aren't as easily eaten as others.

I had the Lap Band previously and when it functioned correctly anything that expanded was out. I know bread isn't always the best idea but I love toast every now and then.

It's not the final digestion so much, the exiting from the stomach and breaking down in the intestines, for me it's more the entry into the stomach and initial digestion. If I eat chicken, tuna, or eggs I can only eat an ounce maybe ounce and a half comfortably and even then it feels like I just ate a ball of concrete. I'm 6 weeks out. On the other hand, I think greek yogurt is the sleever's best friend.

Early out (within the first 3-4 months), I couldn't really tolerate any Pasta, rice or bread. Which was fine because it screwed my carb counts.

All that changed around 7-8 months out, Pasta, rice and some breads became sliders. chips, pretzels, Cookies, fruit Gummy Snacks, are all sliders for me. Bread is tricky for me. I can eat some bread types (steakhouse rolls seem to slide right down), but others cause me discomfort even at 15 months out.

Scrambled eggs still do not settle well. I can eat them, but they hit my stomach like a brick, and it's really quite uncomfortable for about an hour. Poached eggs work great, but scrambled eggs are a no go. Egg salad, deviled eggs work amazingly well.

Some of the things that didn't work with the band such as lettuce, fruits, raw veggies, and fruits all work great now. Once you're out of the healing period, and eat a bit more, you'll find out what really works, and what doesn't work. It is a lot of trial and error, and try to not get discouraged if something doesn't work the first time you try it. I had some things just not work then I'd wait a week or two and try again with success.

Toast, bagel thins or sandwich thins (toasted) all work amazingly well for me now. I can eat a small grilled cheese sandwich minus the crust. It has to be super thin bread, but I never realized how much I missed grilled cheese sandwiches.

Hi Carrie, I can eat bread now, sometimes I have 2 slices of toast with thin melted cheddar cheese on. And I just tried corn on the cob, ate a whole one with butter, coming in at a whopping 250ish cals, which is the 1st time I tried it post surgery. It will get better, I promise. You just are satisfied with smaller amounts.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
