09/10/10...scheduled with Dr. Umbach

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

H/W=255

Current= 250

Surgery Date 09/10/10

I am new to this site..and still anxious and excited! Has anyone felt extremly nervous about complications? Wait...anyone who is having major surgery should be a little concerned right? My past few days have been filled with constant stress and worry...but that it partnered with excitement. I think I want a guarantee that I won't have a leak and spend months in the hospital recovering...but that isn't going to happen in my wildest dreams!

I am excited to start my journey. I have always struggled with my weight and have spent the last 6 years trying to lose it...and I am at the point where I feel that it isn't a choice.

Does anyone ever feel like we are having surgery to fix something that is possible on our own? However, I do not believe that I on my own will and power could eat 3 ox meals and be satisfied...I also believe that it is not possible for me to spend 1-2 hours a day in the gym working out...

So many thoughts...I feel like a head case :biggrin2:

Much love.

Sarah

Relax it will be fine. You mentioned that you can't see yourself in the gym for an hour or 2. Remember that after the surgery if you don't work out (and that's more than just walking) you won't reach your desired results. Stick to the preop diet religiously and things will go super smooth. Good luck!

I haven't found that I need to workout to meet my goals. Now, if I had been better at working out and strength training, my body might look better. I'm trying to get into a routine of walking on the treadmill and doing leg/arm exercises. As soon as my ribs heal, I will do it!!!

I think your thoughts are normal. Just take it a day at time. Dr. Umbach is great and will help answer all your questions. Remember, take deep breaths and keep reading this board. We are here to help!

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
