Has anyone ever just ate something unconsciously without thinking about it and perhaps suffered the consequences. I have my surgery tomorrow and feel like during the first few weeks I am just going to pick up some chips and start munching without even realizing it. I would hate for this to happen and end up being in major pain. I don?t I?m just worried I guess and feel like how is this really going to be afterwards. I have done it in the past, I would be on a high Protein diet and eat something out the blue and a few minutes later I?d start spiting it out, like oh my goodness I ruined my diet on accident?lol? Is this a common fear or am I crazy?haha :thumbup1:

I used to eat stuff without really thinking, but for me as soon as I started my pre op it all just went away.

Once you have the op you may find like I did that you become VERY conscious of everything you have to eat or drink... chewing like mad to make sure it's mush once you get onto solids, splitting pills in half or crushing them as you can't face swallowing something that big.....

Don't worry too much about it.... you'll need to be wary the first few weeks while you heal,. but you can still eat everything long term.

Good luck with your surgery.

Don't worry, you will be so physically conscious of everything that goes in your mouth after surgery that it will be nearly impossible for you to mindlessly graze.

I agree, you are very mindful after surgery. However, if you are really concerned, get that bad stuff out of the house, which you really should do anyway. Best of luck to you.

The first week post op I was VERY concious about the eating because it was just impossible and I didn't feel like eating at all! This second week, since I started to feel 'normal,' I sometimes was about to put stuff in my mouth but immediately remembered "hey, NO!" Your body will know. When I moved from Clear liquids to creams, the first time I got 'sick'; I felt as it was all stuck in my throat and couldn't go further than a 1/4 of cup. I was scared I was gonna throw up, but I didn't. The next time I had to eat, I added more Water and had three teaspoons and waited at least 1 minute. I know it sounds crazy, but I didn't feel sick anymore and I could have 1/2 cup. It'll be fine, don't worry. I hope this helped a bit.

Good luck!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
