Sleeved with lots of Complications

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved last Wed in Tijuanna Mexico, and the day after surgery, I was having so much pain they were not sure what was going on so they decided to take me under again for another surgery to see what was going on, turns out I had a leak and low hemoglobin so I had a blood transfusion. Well leak was fixed and then I ended up getting liquid in my lungs, which there is not much to do for that, I am finding it so tough to sit, lye down, just bending over to pick up something takes alot of effort out of me. I am wondering if anyone else felt this way at all after even if they did not have complications.

I have not even noticed any weight loss either which scares me quite a bit.

I am wondering if I did the right thing to have this surgery

Any thought?

wow, sorry you went through this, but post op pain is normal. Not leaks and such, but just generally, yes pain is normal. I couldn't even wipe myself after day 1, needed help in this area. . .(TMI) as far as the weight loss, well you won't see any for about 2 weeks or so, your still swollen from the surgeries and retaining fluids, be patient. . .i think lots of people have buyers remorse after this surgery, i'm 8 months out and still have buyers remorse at times. . .but you know what, we're stuck with it now, there is no turning back. . .good luck! you'll do ok. . .

I'm sorry you had complications. I'm glad they found the leak and were able to repair it, but like everyone else has said, it will make recovery a longer process. Take care of yourself, and don't overdo it right now. I know I felt completely wiped out the first week after surgery, and I didn't have complications, so I can only imagine how you feel after having an extra surgery and blood loss. I hope your strength comes back soon. Don't worry about the weight loss right away. It'll happen, but you have to concentrate on recovering right now. Good luck, and I hope things are much better in the next few days!

I'm so sorry to hear about the leak and the post op pain. I am thankful they found your leak so quickly and were able to repair it for you.

I just wanted to say I hope you have a speedy recovery and that you start to feel better soon. It's normal to experience pain and discomfort post op and you'll have that twice over.

Just focus on healing. You'll definitely lose the weight later.

I'm also very sorry for you. I hope the pain go away soon.

I was sleeved 2 days after you.

Well I'm kind of a co-player with you. I also had a lot of pain in the first day. At the afternoon my blood pressure droped, but in the end it was only because of the anestesia. AT night they gave me morfine to relax and a medice to sleep, nothing worked. I had an umbilical hernia fixed together and it was causing a lot of pain.

In the end I was luck, in the next morning I was able to drink with no problem, but I was in pain and with nausea because of the morfine. They send me home (I thought they a litle bit crazy).

Like other people said here each day you get a lot better.

About the weigth loss don't worry about it now, you are full of gas and fluids, also the IV is getting you glicose. As soon it comes out your body will start to level again. I went home with the same weight, after 3 days it dropped 6lbs.

how are you doing now? Can you tell me who did your surgery? are you losing weight yet, and how is the pain? I am thinking about the sleeve, but this kind of scares me. ladyrider@aol.com

Momoftwo, we wish you a fast recovery and our thoughts and prayers are with you. I am sure you won't have any regrets once healed, and will be onto a great, new life, with energy to play with your kids.

I, myself, am schedule to the have the new Sleeve Plication, it is like the one you had, but without cutting and staples and no partial stomach removal-all of the stomach stays, room for food is smaller like regular sleeve. Just folding the stomach in on itself and sewing. Same great results as regular sleeve. If anyone wants to know more about it, just search for PLICATION in this forum, and you find experiences of other people that have it it and great doctor info for any sleeve procedure. Wish everyone the best!

I wish you a good and healthy recovery. You;re luck they found the leak so quickly, befoe it did more damage. I know you may not feel so luck right now. As everyone has said, lower your expectations for now. Do what the doctors say, and keep yourself hydrated. You shouldn't be losing weight right now. When I left the hospital, I had gained 5 lbs. And I only had one surgery. You will retain Water for about a week, and then the weight will shockingly fly off. You'll lose all this water, and then all the fat. It will get better. I promise. Just hang in there. Best wishes. Les

I am so sorry to hear you had complications but like someone else posted they caught it early and that really makes a difference. I was just sleeved on the 24th but I imagine even a week out because of the complications you are probably a bit swollen. Go easy on yourself you just had two major surgies!

I didn't have a leak but, I was in terrible post-op pain. At that point, I defenitely had buyers remorse! I've had several surgeries and nothing compared to the pain that I had! I got sleeved on Aug. 25 and it took me a good two days to start drinking without major pains. I mostly hurt where the drain site is!

So I feel for you, I can't imagine how bad the pain was! Hope you have a speedy recovery!

I had my surgery on July 22 and although I had no complications with the actual sleeve surgery I did end up with pneumonia for 2.5 weeks. It was hell to say the least. I hope you feel better and yes it does get better. I thought I wouldn't make it when I was in the hospital, but I am here and kickin! Feel better!

What a rough start. Please be patient with yourself. Focus on healing not weight loss, the weight loss can come soon enough, but make sure your health is first. Also no one will ever be a better advocate for yourself than you. If there are things you are feeling that you aren't comfortable with then feel free to check in w/your surgeon or your doctor here in the states. Trust yourself! Hope the healing goes well. Keep posting you've got lots of cheerleaders here!!!

I am so sorry you have had such a tough time. to answer your question, I did feel the way you are feeling. I had complications, a major bleed, transfusion and additional surgeries. At this point, weakness, pain and soreness are normal. But will ease with each passing day.

Also, you shouldn't expect weight loss yet. They are pumping you so full of fluids, plus the normal Water retention after the trauma of surgery. I actually gained 26 lbs. from the day I checked into the hospital till I left!

Remember to use your spirometer(sp). Keep those lungs working.

Best of luck for a speedy recovery.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
