When do the Gas Pains Start?

Recommended Posts

I must have been lucky as well! Almost no gas pain but I did do a lot of walking. For the first 3 days I could feel some gurgling but no real pain.

Wow that's awesome!

I had gas pain as soon as I woke up. I had so much pain in my back I can't even explain how bad it was! I can feel bubbles of gas moving around in my stomach and it is painful. Walking helps alot. It is mostly gone now, just a little at night still. But I do have this great thing called Post Surgery Depression! From what I understand it is caused from Anesthesia. I just start crying for no reason at all. Mostly in the mornings. :001_unsure:

Wow never heard of this before. There's a first time for everything though. Feel better soon Christina.

Other than that you have already done really really well! Congrats! :thumbup1:

I even walked in place in the middle of the night!!!

I hope you are feeling better now, Christina.

Really one of the things that scared me about the surgery....well after the surgery was the gas pains. So many people talked about how painful it was. I got scared a little bit, I even brought my Gas-X strips to the hospital, but nothing. And still so far nothing.

I asked my doc this morning about Gas X. He said not to bother. He said that it works for people who are producing too much gas, but that in our case, it's due to the normal swallowing of air with drinking, talking and just breathing. It's a bummer, because it makes just one more element beyond our control, but hey he also said, that if I feel like it helps, it's not going to hurt. Oh well...

That's another thing- I can't talk a whole lot for long. It's just to uncomfortable. Anyone else?

My mom told me she also had this after her Hysterectomy. It seems to only be in the morning.

I couldn't walk more than 3-4 blocks without getting exhausted and light-headed until like 10 days out. I'm finally at a point where I run most of my errands on foot, but so far I'm still driving to the university. Normally I'd walk - it's about 3 miles - but I'm still not sure I can handle it at 2 weeks post-op.

I had my surgery on the 20th and am home now and find that after snoozing for a bit, I get more gurgly. It's not pain per se, but just bubbles in my abdomen that want to get out one way or another. Lol. For me, it's only annoying, not painful. The only pain I have is when I cough - my right side (I believe the side where they removed most of my stomach...) is more tender and does not react well to my abdominal muscles contracting like that. Or I suppose I have pain if I forget and try to do things like I always did, forgetting about my incisions. So, when I'm cautious, no acute pain. Don't know if that helps! :crying:

The gas x strips helped me! But you must take two!!! Then again I might be one of those people who produce too much gas. :crying:

Ok dumb question but what exactly are gas x strips LOL??? liquid? pills? or just what it says strips? And if so, what in the heck do you do with these strips? Hahahaha:laugh0:

Literally strips. You put them on your tongue and they dissolve within a minute. The taste's not bad.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
