I haven't had surgery yet, but am beginning to really worry about Hair loss. I have seen women out in the community, and I don't know for a fact, but think they have had wls. I have seen their scalps through the sparse hair. Does this happen to everyone? :biggrin0:

Don't know if it happens to everyone. I am faithful with my Protein intake, take 2 Biotin 5,000 mcg's a day, take flax seed oil, and a hair, nail, skin formula containing the plant horsehair. I just started taking the horse hair, but my hair started falling out at 2 months.

I'm just now beginning to see sprigs of hair coming back in around my hairline. Good thing, cause I was started to get depressed over the way my scalp was showing through.

i'm 2 months out and i have NOT lost any hair so far. i had the lapband done in 2008 and my hair started falling out within 2 weeks of surgery. i'm hoping that it doesn't start coming out now, but if it does, i know it will grow back.

i have had some Hair loss. i already had very thin hair but girls at work the other day told me that they couldn't tell that i had lost any of my hair. i have been getting in my Protein. taking Biotin and using the Hair growth Shampoo from pretty much 2 months. i also am a hair stylist and found out about aeropur thicket. it is a product you put on wet hair and then blow dry it. ask your hair stylist to get you guys some. it has made all of the difference in my style and making my hair look thick and have volume... good luck and it will come back don't worry. that is the price we have to pay in order to be heathy...

Hi MaryAnne,

I think most experience some hair thinning, I certainly did. I was very careful to eat as much Protein as possible and I took Vitamin, Calcium and collagen supplements to give my body as much help as possible. Eventually it grew back in and it's as if it never happened. VSG patients would not have the malabsorption issues that more drastic WLS does, so it should not be a long term issue for us. In fact I have read that any major surgery can trigger hair loss temporarily due to the body shock. So basically don't worry too much.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
