Hello fellow Albertan - I went camping at Rocky Mtn House earlier in the summer and enjoyed it quite a bit!

Re: air trapped in the chest. I didn't have any of that post-op gas pain in my shoulders that some others referred to, so if you have good analgesia (I had a spinal in addition to general), you might not experience it at all. As far as later on - I do feel trapped burps in my tummy sometimes, but they feel no worse than my pre-surgery burps did. I just try to let the air come out, but even if I can't, the discomfort usually subsides after a few seconds. I've got lots of air coming out the other end, though, haha.

Re: losing weight pre-op. I was almost the same weight as you are (200-202), so I didn't HAVE to lose weight. I actually ate whatever I wanted for the 5 weeks after getting my surgery date without feeling guilty. I put on a few pounds and went into surgery at 208, BUT I had completely gotten the whole ice cream - bacon - cheesecake - Kit Kat thing out of my system. During my last week, I didn't even have any Desserts even though they had them available for every meal at my school caf - I just didn't want them anymore. Less than a week after having the VSG, I've already dropped those residual pounds. Of course, the better you eat before the surgery and the less you weigh, the easier the recovery will be and the less you'll need to wait to get to goal weight. So while I of course wouldn't endorse a free-for-all for a month before the surgery, I wouldn't beat yourself up if you are unable to lose weight. You are not that big, and unless there's a major issue with your liver size that's already been identified, you will probably be fine.

Wow that initial post was hard to read.

I did have trapped gas in my left shoulder tip, actually felt like it was a big lump in there that was bruised. Went away after a few days with the use of heat packs. If I get wind pains now at all I take DeGas or GasX.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
