Looking for some August 18th sleeve buddies!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

My name is Anissa. I'm having surgery on August 18, 2010. I'm looking for some sleeve buddies. Is there somewhere specific on the website where I need to go find them or am I already in the right place? LOL.

OK, so like most other pre-opers, I'm nervous! http://VerticalSleeveTalk.com/images/smilies/modern/crying.gif I keep wondering what will my babies think if I don't wake up? Will they be mad at me when they're old enough to understand what happened? Ugh! I know I shouldn't worry. I have a very good surgeon. But I'm still very nervous. Thankfully, my hubby is a rock. I'm lucky to have him. http://VerticalSleeveTalk.com/images/smilies/modern/001_wub.gif

Hi Anissa,

This morning I found out that my surgery will be done on August 31st. I'm so excited, yet like you nervous as well. I'd really like it if we could keep in touch throughout our journey.

Are you starting any pre-op diets? My nurse informed me that I needed to do a liquid diet the day before surgery. This puzzled me, because most of the postings made mention to a week to two weeks of liquid diets so I'm a little worried. She mentioned that I could opt to do it but it wasnt necessary. She said I was a light weight at 217lbs.

I'm really worried about the post-op and getting in the right amount of Vitamins and Protein. How about you any concerns? I keep thinking of my life without all this excess weight... I want it so bad.

Well God Bless and best wishes to you..~ Chana

Chana,

I only have to do a one day pre-op liquid diet as well (actually 24 hours). Nice to know I'm not the only one. I thought it a little odd, too.

I woke up at 6am today to eat Breakfast. Since my liquid diet is 24 hours before and my surgery is at 7:30 am tomorrow, I figured I'd get my last meal in. I had waffles and coffee. I should've probably had something better like eggs with tomatoes or something. I was feeling very nervous this morning, but once the hunger took over at about 11 am, my nerves went away. I'm in a bad mood. LOL.

I'll go ahead and update everyone soon after the surgery. So glad to have found some Sleeve Sisters to go on this journey with!

Im having my surgery on the 18th also. Tomorrow at 12:15 I will be sleeved. I have 2 young boys and it does worry me a little, but I know in the back of my mind that everything is going to be fine and my boys are going to have an even better mom after all this is over with. Im going to get to do sooo much more with them than I could ever do now. My husband is having the surgery next month and he has the same fears. I think it's normal to be scared, but were going to be fine. Good luck tomorrow, Im saying a quick prayer for you right now.

Hi Kimbo,

I had my sleeve on August 4th. Just wondering since we were sleeved around the same time, how are you doing with your post op diet? What kinds of things are you eating now?

Hello!

I had my surgery yesterday. Everything went very well. I mentioned to them right before surgery that I was having more gas pains than normal. They almost canceled my surgery. They did an EKG to see if everything looked good there. By the time that was done, I told them I was able to burg it all out. So the surgeon and anaestheseologists had a meeting and decided to proceed. When I woke up, they told me that they were having a hard time getting my blood pressure stabilized. So today I had and Echocardiogram and they thought they saw something on my aorta. So they put me in ICU and started me on meds to get me ready for the dye for the CT Scan. CT scan was done and everything is OK with my aorta. They just trying to get my blood pressure under control and I should be able to go home tomorrow.

As for my sleeve, everything is well there. Very little pain. Nothing compared to my c-sections. How are you doing?

I had my surgery on Aug 16th and everything went well. I do not have any gas pains, just the normal incision pain. In fact today I am feeling much better. My only concern was that i had lost 15 lbs during my pre-op diet and i weighed 241 on the day of surgery. When I weighed myself on Wednesday I was at 251 lbs. I called my doctors office and they said this weight gain is due to IV fluids.

I am not able to drink much but I am trying hard. Have my first post op appt on Tuesday Aug 24.

Wish everyone good luck and speedy recovery.

I was sleeved on the 16th. I was not ordered to do a two week pre-Op diet; just Clear liquids the day before.

I'm doing pretty well. Incision site pain in the hospital was minimal, probably due to my "party ball," my affectionate nickname for the On-Q medical cather system my doctor put in. It's been kind of a pain to carry around, but well worth it! I took the leads out last night - the medication was only enough for 4 days - and was terribly nervous that today would by extremely uncomfortable. Much to my surpise, it's very minimal - just when I get up or down, and the gas pain is still lingering.

I haven't weighed myself yet, and don't plan to until my Post-Op appt on the 23rd. I am a little worried about caloric intake though. Since most sugar-free Clear Liquids have no calories, I'm consistently getting only 50-150 per day; just doesn't seem enough to sustain a person. Can't wait to add Protein shakes - getting really tired of Sobe Lifewater and Powerade Zero.

Dear friends, I came back from Peru just today and didn't log in while I was there. I'm so glad to report that my surgery was a total success! I cannot believe it all went so fast. My recovery has been amazing: no complications at all. So far it's been very easy, and I'd recommend this surgery to anybody suffering from overweight and obesity. My surgery was laparoscopic which made it even easier on the recovery. I stayed for two days at the hospital and during that time, the only thing that bothered me was pressure in the chest, as if I had a tight belt around my upper body; day 3, the pressure was totally gone; amazing! I am still on my liquid diet and tomorrow I should start two weeks of creams; after that, I will start a week on pure?s and after that, solids. So far I have lost almost 13 pounds counting from the pre-op week. However, it feels even more because my clothes don't fit me anymore; I am soooo happy! Please ask me questions if you wish. I'll keep you posted on how i'm doing.

Love to you all!

Ruth

Ruth (Flaca2Be),

It's so nice to hear from you! I'm so glad everything went well. I'm so happy to hear that your pants are already loose on you. Woo hoo!

Between the one day liquid pre-op and the first week post op, I've lost 11 pounds, but my pants are still the same. lol. But in my experience, I've found that when I'm 200+, it takes a good 20 pounds to lose a pant size. Anyway, I'm not ready to go shopping yet, so it's all good. :P

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
