HELP!!! VSG post op diet with pregnancy

Recommended Posts

I really need everyones help! I am 8 months post VSG and still have quite a bit to lose. I realized that my loss has halted. I have been confused about it because I have been working out an hour 6 days a week rotating weights and cardio which is new for me, but I have been doing that for a month now. However, I have not been able to stick to my low carb high Protein regimen. One great "side effect" of the VSB is that it was easier for me to eat like I needed to, so this was suprising for me. Anyway, I just found out I am pregnant, which is the biggest shock of my life!! I have four kids already and my hubby and I were done! I have mixed emotions about the whole thing and one of the biggest questions I have is diet. I really am scared about gaining and I would actually like to continue to lose. I am still quite heavy and I really don't feel I would be jeapordizing the baby as long as I ate the right way. So, how should I eat? I am thinking stick to high protein and eat good whole grain carbs. Before I tried to stay away from any kind of bread and didn't really eat fruit just vegies but I guess that is not a good idea now. Any replies would be hugely appreciated!!! :001_unsure:

congratulations on your new baby, i would think that at eight months out you would be able to eat healthy for the baby and yourself. i know there is a lady on this forum that just delivered a little girl and was able to keep from graining extra weight during her pregnancy. the great thing about the sleeve is that is is a tool that you will always have. kelly

Good to stay away from breads, sugars, and other simple carbs, but you want to have the good carbs (whole grains, fruits and veggies) so you don't go into ketosis, which can harm a developing fetus. Congratulations!

Thank you for the congrats! I think I am still in shock. I thought we were done :) I had just become so serious about my working out and really trying hard to get more weight off and so I feel kinda disappointed (though babies are always a joy) but your right KBL, the VSG is a great tool! I am going to try very hard this time to work with it and make the most out of this pregnancy. Eat as healthy as I can and keep up with my exercise. Thanks Stacy for reiterating what I had thought. Obviously I just need to stay away from all that junk food that I ate with all my other pregnancies. Get my carbs from fruit, vegies and whole grains. I really hope it works. I am kinda freaking out...about the whole thing really. This baby is a HUGE suprise and we are trying to make it a positive thing. All my goals just seem to be gone with the wind, though I know deep down, that is not true, they just may need to be put on hold. I appreciate any support and encouraging words from all of you!!

well i know in time you will see this baby as a blessing to you and your family..... i had infertility for 13 years before our daughter was born via a gestational carrier. i dreamed of a "surprise". she is now 10 months old and we are having a son in two weeks via a different gestational carrier. so we will be new mommies together. i have not had the sleeve yet but hope to have the sleeve in dec or january. i have to wait until i have some FMLA time off from work. having these babies back to back has used up all my FMLA time off. where is cottonwood? as you can see i live in the tucson area. kelly

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
