Confessions of an exercise-phobe

Recommended Posts

I'm starting my 4th week post-op. I have never been an "exercise person" unless you count Water aerobics, which I love, but aren't available where I live. I hated exercise. I found it boring, pointless, time consuming. I don't see myself ever running a marathon, and I'm not at home in the gym, at least not yet.

After 2 days with the magical intervention of exercise DVDs, I have totally changed. Being able to exercise at home makes all the difference. This is something that I can work into my daily routine easily. For me, right now it's 1/2 hour after Breakfast and before shower. I'm sure I'll work my way up to more. I know that people do scary amounts of exercise and I'm just not there yet. But the DVD I am currently working with burns the calories equivalent to a 3 mile walk in 30 minutes so I'm probably getting some benefit from it.

Anyway, I posted this in case there are other exercise-phobic people out there. This might be a good option for you, too.

I also hate exercise and have lots of joint and back problems. I had no energy following the surgery and just started feeling better in the past week. I am doing 10 - 12 minutes a day on my elliptical machine. I know it doesn't sound like much but I am building up my stamina. I plan to take a yoga class at the end of the month and since I do love dancing am looking for a Zumba class.

anything is great! every thing you can do for yourself matters whether it is a 5 minute walk three times a day or some crazy workout that would make richard simmons winded. lol I find for myself that I prefer dance classes.. you have fun and it is exercise but you don't feel like you are working out. haha I use the Just Dance on the wii also so I can dance at home and no one can see. lol believe it or not I also took Belly Dancing at a Senior Community Center and had the time of my life!! It wasn't about who looked the best or moved the best it was all about shaking what you had and having fun!! : D

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
