Picking my doctor...Viva la Mexico

Recommended Posts

Lol....Would this be Tamboo's friend? The lucky B. If so welcome.

Ha, yes. I was just reading through some of the recent posts and saw that she wrote that so I figured I would create an account.

I'm still on the fence about it but heavily leaning toward it... definitely trying to learn as much as I can. I would probably have the sleeve done in Sebastian, (FL) although I haven't been able to find much info on the doctor (besides PR alerts and advertisements).

Tamboo

I took about 2 weeks to get my passport, but you can travel to and from Mexico 3 times without it so don't sweat it if it doesn't come in time. One of the girls in my group didn't have hers and she didn't have any problems with that at all.

Anyone who wants to can private message me or email me at kmacxx@hotmail.com and I will be glad to help you with what to expect and any questions you have. Dr. Almanza did a great job on my surgery and I have absolutely no complaints about him.

Got my date today. It's for October11th. I decided to go with Dr ponce de leon. I'm happy with my choice. I am worried though about my friend having to stay in a hotel if the recovery house is full. That will not be acceptable.

Its a hard decision to make. I have everything booked and paid for and I still haven't jumped the fence. I do think Tamboo would enjoy having a friend that is on the same journey. Well keep us posted.

Hi Everyone, My name is Rebecca, I'm having surgery with Dr. Almanza on august 9th. I'm getting so nervous, but I think it's the fear of the unknown.:sad0: Thank god my husband is very supportive and understanding. I'm on my liquid diet now and it's hard but I will get through it. I wish all of you the best of luck with surgery.

I feel you Rebecca. I'm on the 18th with Dr. Almanza. I can't sleep thinking about the unknown. Atleast your husband has your back. My husband changed his mind and doesnt want me to do it. He has been watching surgery horror stories. Best wishes to you. Lets know how it went.

Christine, I would love for you to be my buddy. It does suck that we aren't going the same day. This way though, you will be able to tell me all about what to expect. I do think we should start our own Florida group though. That way we can motivate and encourage each other and get together for fun!!! I found out that Dr. Almanza and dr. Ponce de leon share the recovery house. So it's the same house. My family has been supportive since telling them last week. My father insists that my mother go with me, instead of a friend that I have already asked. That's alright, I'm not going to argue against my mother going. She is somewhat nervous going though, as she is legally blind and will be in a foreign country. I told her I would still be able to see :crying: I can't wait to feel confident and sexy again. I haven't felt those things in a long time. I've chosen to isolate myself instead. I'm over it and ready to live life again.

Tamboo is your name Tammy? I think a fl support group would be great idea. I am happy to hear you have so much support from your family. It must take a little stress off. I understand how you feel about looking foward to feeling confident and sexy again. I live near South Beach and can't even enjoy going out there because I feel out of place. Fighting with my husband because I never have anything to wear out has taken a toll on our relationship. Im most looking foward to seeing if my attitude about life changes.

My BFF and I had VSG done by Dr. Almanza on June 10th. We flew from Little Rock, AR to San Diego. We had a truly memorable & positive experience. Everything went smoothly. :thumbup:The hospital & guest house staff were exceptional. I'd love to talk with anyone who has questions. Please feel free to message me.

I just left my PCM's office and I told her that I'm having the VSG done in mexico. Lets just say she told me not to come see her if I have any problems. I told her I understand and I would go to the ER. I told her that I would come see her for any blood work and things like that. She said that would be follow up care and I can't come to her. Now correct if I'm wrong but I have the right to have blood work done. And I guess I will have to make sure I drink lots of Water because I would be S.O.L if I get dehydrated. I just don't know what to do.

Ah Yes, I remember...South Beach....

We will definitely have to get together after our surgeries. I live in Palm Bay. I know your surgery is coming up. Any progress with getting the husband back on board?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
