Let me just say that BEFORE anyone JUMPS down my throat..please read this whole thread cause I need some advice :help: :help: :help:

I know that I have done EXTREMLY WELL with my weightloss in a VERY short amount of time so I am NOT complaining at all- I AM VERY VERY well pleased however...I went for my 2nd fill on the 23rd of May and I am real tight...good tight...but tight..not TOO tight but just tight....Well....I have not lost ANY weight since I got my fill on the 23rd of May...:omg: WHY? that is what I want to know....WHY?????? I am eating less than I was before the fill and I was losing so well then- I am making sure to get in my calories so as to not undereat and shut my metabolism down - I am still exercising like I was before-eating the same foods just less than I was before and I make sure to take in at least 1000 per day as to not undereat and not keep my metabolism going.....what is the deal???? Has this happened to anyone else or maybe I have just hit a plateau or something WHICH IS FINE...seeing as how I havent before but I just wondered if any of the "Veteran" members might have some advice or some insight on why this is happening....COULD I be too tight and its keeping me from losing? I wouldnt think this could happen but could it????????? I just dont know what the deal is...:help: somebody? shed some light for me! PLEASE

Love you all!

I had times that the scale didn't move at all, but noticed that during that time I lost inches. Perhaps you are doing that too. In answer to your question yes, you can be too tight, but it sounds like you are able to eat right, so I doubt that is your problem. I sometimes think our bodies take a rest to catch up. Sometimes you won't lose anything for a couple of weeks, then all of a sudden boom 5-10 pounds will drop fast. I wouldn't jump too fast to consider it a problem for a couple of weeks anyway.

Thanks Betty...and you are right.....I noticed that I can now wear a 18 pants *loosly* and that has just happened since I got the 2nd fill even though I havent lost any lbs so to speak so you are probably right but it kind of freaks a person out when you get a fill and then DONT lose....*sigh* guess it is all apart of the bandland!!!

Thanks and mucho love!

I have the same issue. I got my third fill (after more than 6 months without a new one) two weeks ago and have lost almost nothing! Same as you about eating less, exercising the same. Oh well, i am definately in it for the long run, so let's see what happens.

how many calories are you taking in a day? you maybe in starvation mode if you are under 900 calories a day. Doctors and nutritionists like to keep weight loss patients between 900 and 1200 calories per day for optimum weight loss. Starvation mode can cause you to stall in your weight loss until you up your caloric intake. Some have even been known to gain! Good luck!!

Eat you a dadgum bowl of ice cream...okay, a small cup, every other day for a week and see if that helps. Seriously! I think you need to up your calories just a tad. Freak your body out by giving it something sweet and yummy. WW makes ice cream bars worth 2 points each. It's a perfect snack and feels like cheating.

But, I'm a slow loser so you may not want to listen to me! :girl_hug:

Thanks all of you and you are probably right...I am eating so little but I make sure that I drink some choc milk everyday to get my Protein that way cause their is NO way I can eat any form or meat or even eggs...I am VERY restricted....I think its a good restriction but maybe its not....I am not miserable at all...I can eat a little of say potatoe salad or some spaghetti- maybe about 2 oz or so....I feel good but the weight is just NOT coming off....But I am not panicked yet- I think that I will probably weigh and lose 2-5 at a time...we will see...Thanks all for your help...

Love to all!

NO meat and NO eggs? Girl, go get 1/2cc taken out. I'm looking at your fill schedule and you got your 1cc back, but if you can't eat ANY meat? Too tight. Be super careful, okay? Banded life isn't supposed to be THAT restrictive. You'll loose better when you can eat a wider variety of foods, including hard protiens. You should be able to eat moist chicken breast. Slowly and carefully, but you should be able to eat 2-3 ounces of it. chocolate milk is yummy. UP your calories by 2-300 a day for 5 days, see what happens.

Thanks thebest...I think I will and see what happens- I have contemplated calling the doc and seeing what his take is on it cause I think that maybe I am too tight- like right now I just ate 3 saltines and I am stuffed to the max and I hadnt ate since 4 this afternoon.... See that is too tight isnt it

See this is why I like not having anything in my band. I am pleased with the amounts and types of foods I eat. Honestly, I don't want to be full after just a few bites. I fear if that happened to me I wouldn't want to bother cooking and I would go for quick fixes.

I hope I never NEED a fill.

3 saltines is not a meal. Not a healthy meal, either. You'd have been better off with your chocolate milk, or that dadgum bowl of ice cream I mentioned.

kabeerah, I like "not tight". I was super tight post-surgery and in the past 14 months have had 2 fills. I haven't had a fill since October 2005. Tight isn't right. You are losing beautifully and I'll bet eating properly too.

Carla, compare your eating to the food journals of those who are losing well. Not to beat yourself up, your weight loss is wonderful too, but you see how it has stopped. It isn't healthy in any way to be over-restricted. Hang in there. Do the right thing. Take care of your health and the health of your band.

I'm a slow loser, true. Part of it is becasue I'm NOT too tight and I eat. When I choose better foods, I lose better. My weight loss isn't showing on the scales lately. But it's showing in the way my clothes fit, for sure. Don't let the scale rule you. Go with the facts. Know what you are eating, choose wisely. Come on, I know you will do it! I'm cheering you on!!!!!!! (where's that pom-pom girl?)

I fully agree. You are too tight. Often when folks are too tight they resort to eating softer foods (like potato salad, Pasta, chocolate milk, etc) which are higher in carbs and slow the weight loss. It is confusing because the quantity is so much less, why shouldnt you be losing??

Go get a slight unfill and start eating hard Proteins, like fish and chicken. Then add in some yummy veggies and then a little fruit. You'll be losing weight in no time.

*hugs*

I platued for months... I dont keep track of inches, but this is the time when all my skin went lose and flabby and shiften and drooped..

So I count it..

when I was so tight, I choked for almost two months, lucky to get a meal once a week... I didnt lose weight.. well I yo yo'd the same 10 pounds...

thats all the advice I can give.. I am 17 months in and still feel clueless..

photonut, you are so right about the soft foods.. and the carbs and calories...

I food log real real so I am aware of how it can add up but not seem like you ate so much..

I can easily consume 3000 calories a day, snacking and drinking...(on the band!) lol

If I could ever keep it under 1000 calories like so many are doing....

I cant imagine not loosing weight..

I dont beleive in starvation mode.. not at 800 calories, and not short term, if your at it for months on end (never cheating) then Maybe..

Starvation means Starvation...

your body might protect 5 pounds at the most... imo

Thanks all who have posted...I love this site just for that...You know what I think I am too tight and I am resorting to eating softer things that will "GO DOWN" easy that probably are higher in carbs etc....Yeah! I think I will call the doc and see about getting a little taken out....I dont FEEL tooooo tight persay but I am or I could eat some real food in a small quantity.....Yeap its official I am calling the doc!

HEY I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION- will it ever loosen up on its own or will it not "loosen" until I lose some more...just curious as to how that works in regards to the fill process if anyone knows....

MUCH LOVE AS ALWAYS

Love you guys!

Carla

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
