I told my sig other and recently one good friend. i've said it before, you can always tell - but once you do, you cant take it back. I'm with others who said - it's hard enough to lose weight - i don't want others scrutiny about how much ive lost etc.

I only told my son & his wife, my brother and my 2 best friends who always support me. I did not want to be under surveillance all the time and if I fail I did not want to be ridiculed.

Besides my doctors, only my husband knows. I have been banded since 3/17/06, maybe later on I will tell others but for now - no. Before being banded, I would work certain things about WLS into my conversations with friends and family and all feedback was negative and very judgemental. Did not need the added stress - so I told no one. Since I do not see them often due to living in different areas, they have not seen me at 33 lbs lighter.

I pretty much told everyone I knew, even the technician who did my pre-op EKG. I welcome the observing eyes, as I think this will help me keep on track.

My husband and daughter, one woman I work with who is having it done at same time I am and medical staff who need to know. There is so much judgement on WLS I do not want to explain and have people watching every move I make!

I only told my husband. Everyone else thinks I had hernia surgery.

I think this has to be done on the way it feels best to you. Also, I think there are lots of people who really don't understand it and probably they're not at all interested in knowing about it (they might ask about it just to be polite, but they don't really care...). In addition, I can live well without the attention and without those sort of judgemental look everytime I put something into my mouth...

I told my husband, parents, sister and in-laws (they were helping me with my kid so I had to tell them the truth about why I was going to the hospital for 48 hrs.). Apart from those few, I rather go on a need to know basis, i.e. if someone obese wants to know more about it.

Besides, as I'm a slow looser and I've been exercising and eating carefully (correct food choices), I feel quite comfortable with the idea of not telling the whole world about it.

I told/tell anyone and everyone. I am very excited about it and happy to share. I get a lot of support and have only had one person imply I was taking an easy way out - set her straight and that was the end of that.

I am going to a family reunion July 1st. To keep everyone from bugging me wanting to know how I lost weight so fast, I emailed my cousin and told her all about my surgery. Everyone will know before I get there now! The pressure is off now the world knows my little secret!

When I started this whole process I told only a couple of people. After I got approved by my insurance I started telling more people. Everyone has been very supportive. I did worry some about everyone "watching" to see how fast I lose. I work with a lady that has bypass...oh well... It really doesn't bother me if they watch, let em watch as I shrink!

My husband and children....that's it!

I don't think I could stand the constant scrutiny if too many people knew.

The only person that knows about my WLS is my hubby. He had GB surgery a few years ago and is my inspiration and coach! I think that people will figure it out if I keep losing, but so far, no one has really noticed that much. I felt it was a very personal decision for me and just didn't want to have to explain to others and get those looks! It's been two months and I have done pretty good so far! It's not easy, but it appears to be working for me, especially after my first fill in mid-May! Good luck to all of you (and me!) in our weight loss journey! :clap2:

:hungry: I have not told anyone but of course my husband, not even my2 girls who we are very close. We have had my grandson b-day party and nocake for me. It was had not to tell them why I am not eating cake. They are boththin and with me only needing to lose 50 lbs. I did not want them to give me a hard time about it. My baby girl and her family are coming to stay the weekend with us. Not sure how I am going to pull it off bc I am only on my3 week post op. Wish me luck.

Mary this had me barking outload with laughter. It seems evil in a way! LOL Find the biggest gosspi monger in the family, tell them, and in a day the whole family will know more about your medical history than your doctor does. LOL I think that is brilliant! :heh:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
