Protein Bars - any recommendations

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend their favorite Protein bar. I had to get some labs done today and then I stopped off at the store - I had been fasting (due to labs) and thought I'd buy some Protein Bars and eat while I was shopping. I bought what I THOUGHT was pretty good - but I don't think so. I ate it while shopping and didn't feel too good. It's called "Power Bar" "Long Lasting Energy" - It has 230 cal; 9 g. fat; 15 g sugar, 3 g. Fiber and 10 g. protein. I thought it had too much sugar and alot of calories - any way: can someone tell me their favorite Protein Bar - these are probably pretty good to stick in your purse for "emergencies" - THANKS.

Hi I like all the Atkins Day Break bars, and they are great protein/carb options.

My favourite is Pure Protein bars .. 20 grams of Protein .. usually under 200 calories .. a quick fix of you need some protein. (Note there are two sizes of the bars .. the larger one I cannot consume in one sitting .. it's too large). The least sweetest tasting to me is the chocolate chip bar. The 'fruit' protein bars are sickly sweet.

Pure Protein - Eat Good. Look Great.

The kind I buy are from costco and they are called Premier Protein. They were recommended by my surgeon's office because they are softer/chewy so you can eat them early out too. 1 bar has a whopping 30grams Protein. I don't remember the exact info for everything else but want to say it's AROUND 210-230 cals and 15g carbs. I find that at one month out, I still can only eat 1/2 a bar at a time (very dense) so it makes a very reasonable meal since you'd cut those cals and carbs in half, and still get 15g protein. The box comes with 3 flavors in it - chocolate Peanut Butter, double chocolate crunch, and yogurt peanut crunch. Not sure why they call them crunch because they are soft and chewy. I think they are decent in flavor, the yogurt one is my fave (tastes more "convincing" than the chocolate) but I don't think you can buy them individually, just in the box with the 3 flavors.

My nutritionist also recommends the Permeir Protein bars from costco. They are actually 300 calories but I only eat half at a time too. They are 30 grams of Protein.< /strong>

I also love the Oh Yeah, bars. They are 15 grams of protein. I get them online at vitacost.com.

They taste like a kit kat bar and they come in several flavors. I like the choc. mint and the choc. Peanut Butter. I have to be careful with them because they taste so much like a candy bar, I could eat them constantly. There are 2 sticks in a pack and I only eat one. They make a great snack.< /strong>

Ah yes you are right I just looked at them and the cals are 270, 280 and 290 depending on the flavor. I will have to look into these Oh Yeah bars, they sound good!!

Hi Trish, I am in England. Between London and Oxford ish.

I was stunned at the pictures of me before, you forget how bad it was. I was actually heavier than that when I started the pre-op diet.

Cheers,

jane

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
