PO day 9 Need protein ideas Please!

Recommended Posts

I am going to be 10 days post op tomorrow and cannot tolerate any protien shakes, I have spent a fortune on all the different kinds, I've tried almost all of them to inclide special K, Muscle Milk, Carnation and even slim fast. I have also tried Isopure drinks and they gag me. The only thing I've been able to do is sprinkle the unflavored Protein powder in my "runny" foods, I've put some in my soupy mashed potatos & gravy and in my pudding and applesauce but I can't be getting much from those lt bits, I also bought Greek yogurt and mixed it with the SF Cheesecake pudding, that was good. Also was able to do cottage cheese. I just need some ideas of other ways I can get more protein inbetween these tiny meals. Thank you!!

I've even tried the one costco carries and a couple others I can't think of their names, oh and my other question is how long do we have to stay on the prilosec, I have only been taking it every other day and I'm not sure I need it???

I know what you mean about the Protein. I think that's one of the most common problems people have after verticle sleeve, which I had. I am 19 days out now.

I have finally narrowed it down to the vanilla soy milk and the vanilla ice cream flavored Gold Standard 100% whey, that I got from GNC. It's not too sweet, which I need right now since lots of things taste too sweet for me now. I should probable try skim milk again since it would be less sweet, but right after surgery I could not tolerate it.

Good luck.

Try Frigo Lite string cheese - 8g Protein and only 60 calories per stick. I nibble these for a snack.

Have you tried the Ricotta bake from the recipe section - Ricotta has a lot of Protein

Egg salad is another option. Scramble an egg and shred a babybel cheese in it.

I have found that if I don't do shakes I can't get my protein easy without eating all day. My routine is 2 shakes 2 meals and maybe a cheese stick for a snack. I use the Jay robb egg white protein. With the chocolate I put it in 6-8 oz of Water, a squirt of hershey SF Syrup, a bunch of ice and blend it all up. It's not bad. My grocery store has small packs of the protein so that is what I bought to try it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
