I'm on day 4 of my post op and have to say things are going very well. My pain was gone after day 2 but I'm still moving kind of slow. Things were going so well I thought that it would be no problem to go to the store. I asked my system to come and get me only because I don't feel limber enough to get into my truck yet, and boy am I glad I did. I was pushing the cart, happy go lucky, and by the time I was half way through my list (only had about 10 items to get) I was exhausted. I came home and my sister put up my groceries for me and I just vegged in the easy-chair. Guess I need to take things a little slower!

On the diet front, thankfully I'm not having any issues. I'm on full liquids now and had some cream of chicken Soup (strained of course) and it went down with no problem. There have been a few times where I've taken a sip that was really a gulp and felt the tightness in my throat but it soon passes.

I have to say that this site has helped me out a lot. Everyone's contributions here help me make my decision to do this and helped me know what to expect.

So move down the line...Big Kahuna is on the losers bench!:thumbup1:

Im so glad you made the choice to do this surgery. I am still amazed everyday that I can only eat so little and that I am losing weight. Keep walking a little bit more every day, you are still pretty new so taking it easy isnt the worst thing. Just make sure to follow your post op instructions and depending on your post op diet, PROTIEN is the key to quick healing. My doc wanted me to get in 40g of protien for the first few weeks and I used that liquid Isopure mixed with a variety of other liquids to kill the taste. I know that getting in the protien gave me energy and healed me quick.

Isnt it just unbelievable that you recover so quick. I still cant believe how quick the recovery was and now if it wasnt for the small scars and the small appetite i would never know. AMAZING.

Congrats and keep us informed.

Good to hear you're doing well...each day does get easier... I still get exhausted but not as bad as last week, I think the trick is do what your body will let you do, then take a break!!

I am day 12 and doing great. Still a little tugging on the incisions, but other than that, feeling fab. I am a little concerned that I really don't feel much different. I am not hungry anymore since I moved on to the next phase of food after my one week doc appt. I am loving egg salad, tuna salad, Frigo string cheese, etc. Today I made a yummy lentil Soup, pureed it and then mixed in a little plain greek yogurt. Every once in a while I get a little tired, but I think that is because I am only sleeping 5-6 hours a night (so much energy). keep up the good work all!

Hey Big Kahuna. Congrats on a successful surgery. It sounds like we have very similar post op diets. I'm so grateful that I'll be able to have somewhat regular foods the first week - assuming my stomach tolerates it. I was really worried about being on Clear Liquids for a long time and being too weak to do anything. I'm sure your energy level will continue to improve as your diet progresses so just enjoy the excuse to rest as needed for now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
