Free bariatric cooking classes -- anyone in the austin area??

Recommended Posts

Hi:)

My name is Mandy and Ive been looking around on this thing since surgery but never posted and thought ooohhh why not!!?

Anyways last night I went to this special bariatric cooking class with a special chef that teaches and two nutritionist ladies to answer questions throughout. Last night we had a little taste test for summer grilling and cooking. Had tequilla lime chicken and mango citrus salmon! WAS AMAZING!!! Got the recipes so will for sure need to try them at some point soon!

Question is --- Is there anyone in the Austin area that would like to go with? It happens twice a month and the next one is SUSHI! YUM!

Would be nice to form a group and enjoy company of fellow wls people. Get together at the class or even outside of class.

THE CLASS IS FREE!!! HERES THE SCHEDULE:: So far posted

Sushi - June 8

Healthy Mexican Cuisine - June 22

1 Bag, 5 Meals - July 13

Grocery Store Tour - July 27

WOW! I wish they had something like that here!

Even though I"m not much of a cook, I still think that would be fun!

Wow, that sounds like fun! I am not scheduled for surgery until 6/8, and I am down in San Antonio, but I would be willing to "make a night of it" for one of the July classes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
