My friend and I decided to take our kids and go to Florida for spring break. She had the lap band surgery in Nov 03. Her last fill in January put her at 3.0 cc's. For the past 6 weeks she has had trouble eating any foods and had been living on chocolate milk and Decaf coffee. I knew she needed an unfill but she was determined to get below 200 from 262. She was in the 190's when we left for Florida. She then decided that she wanted to get to 180 before getting an unfill.

Once we were down in Florida, she started throwing up liquids even Water. On the third day of no fluids or food, I drove her to the emergency room. She spent the entire day in the emergency room getting all kinds of test run. Finally a nurse withdrew the saline from her band after contacting our doctor. She missed a beautiful day on the beach.

Because of the effects of dehydration she fainted the next morning in a restaurant in front of her son. She recovered ok but was embarrassed.

She is lucky that this is all that happened to her.

I had already decided not to get a fill before my vacation. Now I know I won't! Sorry your friend had such a miserable time.

Wow, what a scary story! We can all learn from that--being too tight is no way to take care of ourselves. I'm glad your friend got help--good thing you were with her!

Thanks for sharing this cautionary tale.

I did that same thing. I dont know what got a hold of me but i got too tight and noticed that i was loosing faster and i seriously got obsessed with making sure that i kept tight. Eventually my fiance caught on to what i was doing and threatened to take me to the hospital, that was all it took. My stomach eventually shrank enough to be able to eat small amounts of food. But now i seriously need a fill but dont want to miss out on eating my favorite foods in June when we go to Florida!! I think i am just all mixed up and crazy!! By the way Dr. Morton is my doctor also!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
