Hello everyone, I was sleeved Wednesday early AM and everything is going really good thus far. I just wanted to ask about reaching maximum capacity while in the liquid phase for 2 weeks. I've never really experienced acid reflux before surgery, but while I'm sipping my liquids and hear the gurgles and growls, i've just been assuming it was acid reflux. It got me thinking though, while we are on liquids like Powerade zero, broth and Water do these liquids just go right through our sleeve or does the liquid meet our sleeve and fill? For an example, I fell asleep last night around 11:30 P and just woke up at 4:30 A. I knew I needed to get some water in just to keep myself well hydrated, so I've been sipping for about 15 minutes some h20. Within the first couple drinks the gurgles and growls began. I just didn't know if this is because I am still full inside the pouch and am pushing the liquids too quickly or is this just normal reaction to liquid as the tummy is healing?

Also how long would you say it took you to consume a glass of h2o or broth? Sometimes I want to get it in and over with prior to a nap or sleeping time so I will sip small but frequently. Could the sleeve become too full from the liquids? I just didn't want to be drinking too quickly or if this is normal acid reflux? Thanks, anyone with similar experience please do share :redface1:

I really want to hear some repsonses to this too as I am going through the same thing. For me the gurgles and growls hurt, they feel like extreme hunger pains.

I think it's totally normal. I didn't have a whole lot of the gurgling and growling...probably cause I burped like every 5 seconds non stop for the first week or so. I still burp but not nearly as often...after every meal I burp a lot though. It's quite funny.

Also liquids go through our tummies pretty quickly. Even if you take a sip too fast or drink too much to quickly and get that pretty full feeling...for me at least it goes away within just a minute and I go right back to drinking.

As for low long it takes you to drink a glass of Water...it seems that everybody is different. I never really had a problem drinking and could drink pretty normal drinks within just a few days. Thank god for crystal light and sf koolaid cause I really don't much care for plain Water unless I'm really hot and really thirsty!

I am 7 weeks out and I still occasionally get the gurgles and growls. They are not as intense but my stomach talks constantly. It makes my husband laugh. The gurgles are not acid reflux. I think almost everyone's stomach makes weird noises in the beginning. I also still get hiccups quite often after I eat. They are almost comical type drunk hiccups but they don't really hurt anymore now that my stomach is pretty much healed. As for acid reflux I've had it on occasion before and after surgery. It can take on different feelings in different people but it usually feels like burning in your chest or throat and like your dinner is crawling back up our esophagus. It is worse when you lay flat. If you wake up in the night with the pain and feel like you need to sleep sitting straight up then it is probably acid reflux. I think right now you are probably adjusting to your sleeve not to say that you won't get acid reflux as it is a very common problem among us. So definitely watch out for symptoms. Hope this helps.

I never had acid before surgery. When my stomach started the gurgles after surgery I figured it was acid. I took my ppi but it didn't go away.

Then.... about 2 weeks out I forgot my ppi for a while and I got real acid reflux. It's way different.... it burns your stomach and esophagus. You'll know when you have it. The gurgles are normal. Mine noises are subsiding as I get further out but they are definately still there.

Sounds like your doing fine

take care

Have lots of gurgles and burping as first week after surgery, started getting nausea yesterday but no vomiting. Making it hard to get my fluids in though. Feeling lightheaded too. Anyone have that?

Liquids go through you pretty quickly. I always had extra liquids without problems. My stomach made noise and still does from time to time. I don't think it is anything to be concerned with and somewhat normal. When you get to soft foods and solids you'll really notice the difference as far as fullness. If you over do it the food sort of feels like its coming up your esophagus and sometimes it becomes painful. I think the best thing you can do in the beginning is just to stick to the 1/8-1/4 cup serving. Eat slowly, chew well, and pay attention to how you feel. Do not eat until you feel stuffed. If you begin to feel like you are hungry it might be that you are not hydrating enough or your stomach might be overproducing acid. A lot of people confuse it with hunger.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
