Hello Everyone,

I am new here and I have been reading a lot of post here and everyone has been helpful. So i decided to get VSG in Jan of this year. Had a consult with my surgent and continued to do all the preliminary appts. Everything went fine. That is until I went to a new PCP. Its actually funny but I havent had a PCP as an adult. I just went to a doctor if I wasnt feeling well.

Well here is the problem. I dont have a history with my new PCP so she doesnt now much about me. I have been seeing her for 3 months now. So when it came time for her to write the letter for the insurance company, she wrote a note like I was going back to work. I then asked for a new letter and she wrote another BS letter that was a little longer then the last (all of 6 sentences).

I would think she would know how to write a letter for approval but obviously not. So I had the surgents office call and request a 3rd letter. I am just worried that I wont get what I need from her and get denied. I have a VSG date for June 23rd. I'm just nervous. Im am thinking of going to my family doctor to see what he can do.

You might try asking your surgeon or your insurance carrier if they have any sample letters that your PCP could use as a guide. If not, ask the ins company the requirements for the letter. Worst case scenario, write one yourself and show your PCP and tell him/her that is how it's supposed to look.

Is there a difference between a PCP and a family doctor? :thumbup1:

When I say Family doctor, I meant he is a doctor that my parents use and he has seen me in the past. I chose my PCP because she was in network and close to my home.

If you think you could get a letter from your family doctor, you might include both with an explaination from you that you included it because you haven't been with your PCP very long. ??

Do you even have to have a letter from your PCP? I did not. I just went to a bariatric surgeon. The surgeon preferred my PCP be on board but was not required. I didnt tell my PCP until after I was approved.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
