March 2010 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I am now 2 weeks out and doing great and very glad to be off liquids. So far I feel great! I am having a problem getting all my Water in and I have to have a Protein Shake every day to get enough calories and protien, but I know that will get better with time.

Hello all,

wondering how all the March sleevers are doing? I had surgery on March 16 and am down 30lbs. I am having some issues with eating but have to say it's more because I am picky.

Wow you are doing great. I have lost 30 lbs but that includes my preop diet loss. I am having no problems eating, I just can't eat much. I only lost 2 pounds last week so that was disappointing. I feel great though and am very happy with the sleeve.

Hello fellow Sleevers!! I had surgery on March 19 and I am down 29 lbs. Totally

unbelieveable as I have never seen the scale move / decrease So much in a short

amount of time! I am trying to get rid of a throat infection which is making things harder to eat.

However, I feel good and back at work. I can already tell this journey will be

life changing!!! Hope everyone else is doing fine!!!

I am three weeks one day. Doing great last weigh in down 16# not going to weigh again till 4/18 I am really trying to focus on the lifestyle change I know the weight will come off. I have not been counting calories and refuse to so I am done with that part of my life. I am keep track of Protein grams. I know what is not good for me to eat! The professional dieter has retired!!!

I am sorry I missed the other Dr. Aceves patients who were in Mexico when I was, I was so sick the first 2 days opt-op I hardly left my room!

Just had a post-op with my surgeon and I was cleared for all foods and all exercise/weight bearing activity. With 4 kids at home I leveled with her and told her that I was lifting the 1yo 4 days post-op, so she asked me if I was hurting at all... So, life as usual in our house now, too bad my husband was there with me and heard it for himself as it would be nice to ride the gravy train for a while!

I'm still having issues with what is a proper amount to eat and what is too much. When I have too much I experience this up/down/up/down/upppp/doowwwnn feeling. Then after 15 minutes it's gone. So I'm trying to pay more attention to how much I portion out. Right now I'm at about 1 Tablespoon then take a break. Fluids are going down nicely, however and for that I am thankful.

Anyone on to an amazing food discovery that is soft?

Today is my first full day of mushies/soft foods. I made scrambled eggs from egg beaters and put a little cheese in them, but I could only eat about 4 bites. I also pureed a small amount of wendy's chili and I'm sure if you asked me this in any other time in my life I'd have thought it was disgusting, but it was very nice to eat something other than a Protein shake! I also just pureed some tuna with a little garlic mayo and a pickle. Not too shabby, but only got in a few bites. Good luck!

How nice to hear how others are doing. I don't post much but log on every day. I had my surgery on March 22nd so I am 16 days out. I was a lower BMI (36) and have lost 15 lbs since surgery. I find the scale so strange and at times frustrating. It dropped pretty fast the first week but now it goes up and down a few ounces daily. I have been halfway been keeping track of my intake. I know that I am not getting in all the liquids in even though I am not having problems drinking - it just seems like I run out of time. I am doing 2 Protein shakes a day and just can't stomach another one to finish off my Protein requirement for the day. I also am having problems transitioning to mushies since the thought of liquified food just grosses me out. I just am holding on to the thought of real food soon to get my protien in. my plan is to really start tracking my protein and carb intake at that point.

I feel that the last 2 days I have turned a corner and am starting to feel much better than I did the first 2 weeks. Not that they were all that bad but just not normal. But I have been walking 3 miles a day since I got home from the hospital (even though at first it made me so out of breath even though I was used to walking). And now that I am taking my Nexium 2x/day my stomach has finally quieted down.

I have only told 3 friends at work about the surgery but I had 4 different people tell me yesterday that I was looking thinner. So I guess this is a good thing.

I think we're all doing fabulously! I have to say that I didn't really do much in the way of puree/mush. Other than mashed potatoes and perhaps Soup, I couldn't go there. I had a pierogi (only the innards, skipped the Pasta case) with bacon, onion and a touch of sour cream for dinner. Yum! I used to sock away 5-8 of them with loads of bacon and loads of sour cream. It was nice to have flavor again!

I was sleeved March, 24 and everything has been going very well. I sometimes eat too much and am uncomfortable for 15-20 mins and I used to love eggs and cottage cheese and now am a little grossed out by them. I am really pleased with my sleeve and hope everyone else is too!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
