What does H Pylori have to to with getting the sleeve? Does it prevent you from getting the sleeve or will they say that the by pass is better?

Thanks

I cannot answer if it prevent you from having surgery or not. I received

an email from my Doctors in MX Wednesday informing me they learned

during test on the part of my stomach they took out that I have it. I have

an appt. Monday with my local Doctor. I was told by the MX doctor that

I will have to continue taking Nexium and two other meds for 14 days to

get rid of it. They do not want it to cause ulcers in my new stomach.

Good Luck with your journey.

H. Pylori is the bacteria that causes ulcers. My old stomach tested negative for it, thankfully. It's been a long time since I read anything about it, but if I remember right, it's just treated with antibiotics (but don't quote me on that). I don't think it would prevent you from being sleeved.

Kaiser makes us take the test pre-op so that they we can take meds prior to surgery if we have it. I came back negative. I think it just means taking the meds and hopefully not having to wait on surgery.

I had to take the test for H Pylori pre op too. I came out positive and had to take what is called a "Prev-Pac" It consisted of antibiotics and an antacid-probably Previcid. I had to take that for 4 weeks! After that I was good to go for the surgery. I asked my surgeon if I needed to be retested and he said "no, not necessary". About 2 months ago (at nearly 4 months out of surgery, I went to a GI doctor because I was having mucus and sinus problems. I requested that I be tested again for H Pylori only through a stool sample and it tested negative thank God! H-Pylori is very common and many people have it and don't know it, so I've been informed. It is a bacteria that does cause ulcers and untreated over time, can even cause stomach cancer. You can just put it through a search engine and find plenty of info on it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
