Another Newbie...Surgery Scheduled

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! :thumbup1: I have been lurking for the past month or so and finally decided to post. My surgery is scheduled for March 9th in Houston. As for most, this is a huge decision for me and I continue to struggle with losing 3/4 of my stomach. I know that I don't need it, but removing most of my stomach is a bit hard to 'digest'. :biggrin0: The stories and experiences shared in this forum have helped and I look forward to sharing my story over the next few months.

Hi Kerri,

I'm from Houston as well. I'm just in the beginning stages of getting my surgery approved. Good Luck to you and keep us posted. I'm still learning all the facts and want to be at peace with the decision.

Take care. :)

Yeah! I got my surgery date today - March 3rd. I immediately was elated, scared and wanted to back out - all at the same time! Then I had to remind myself why I had made this decision and all the research I have done to assure this was the best decision for me.

I want to thank everyone here that has been so open with their personal journey. Y'all are all such an inspiration and a source of knowledge and support.

Bless you all. Kathy:001_tt1:

Thanks everyone!!!

I scheduled my pre-op appointment for Monday of next week. Also started reducing my diet coke intake.:001_tt1: I usually drink 3 lg fountain sodas a day.:blushing: So today...I had one large soda and one tea. Waiting for the headaches to start.

Still have mixed emotions about the surgery but also recognize this is something I need to do.

One question...is this the place to keep somewhat of a journal of my story?

Well, tomorrow is the big day. So many emotions....excited....nervous...scared. But I'm ready. I have been reading and re-reading articles, books, forums, etc. I will post when I get home in between walking and sipping. :biggrin0:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
